I HAVE A PROBLEM

sad I started a new job in real estate today...the people seem very nice...small company, not alot of listings though which concerns me...and only one office....

I sent out 3 letters of application and a second one has emailed me today saying they will contact me tomorrow for a interview ...this company was my first choice..2 offices....lots of listings, more agents, properties in a higher price range

But I feel bad if I was to tell the first company that I am choosing to not take the position with them (after starting today) and am instead going with this larger company.
At this stage I am thinking of going to the interview and making my mind up IF I get the position

WHAT WOULD U DO ....advise please!

I would go to the interview and make your mind up if you get offered the second job. You have to think about whats best for YOU even though that may mean you being disloyal etc.

So you're basically sure that you don't prefer the other job, and the only reason you would go is because you feel bad about turning them down without an interview? In that case I don't think you should go. If there's a realistic possibility that it might be the better option though, then of course you should try to fit an interview into your schedule.

No I think it would be a better position (mind u I would have to meet them to get a better feel for if this is true) ..but I would feel bad leaving a company that was very welcoming and happy to have me after one day

you could say you applied at the same time, and this one is a better opportunity for you career wise, but I wouldn't worry about that until you get offered it biggrin

You've only worked there one day...you don't have loyalty lol... smile

Back when I owned my own company, I had people quit after a few days...eh, you deal with it, it's to be expected. If the other job is more to your liking and more in line with the goals you had when starting in this direction in the first place, I say take advantage of it.

There's a little problem there lol ..he actually asked me why I bothered with him and not someone like _____ . To which I replied you were my first choice and I wanted to work with a smaller company that was more team orientated (hey I wanted the job neutral )

doh! Oh, I got it backwards when you said "This company was my first choice" since I thought "this" referred to the company you're currently at. I guess I should have read your post more carefully...

Anyway, in that case I think you should definitely go for an interview. Neither you nor the company you're currently working for would be happy with your efforts if you felt like you'd settled for second best.

On the other hand, don't underestimate the value of a nice work environment. Bigger companies that make more money can sometimes feel like Soylent Green factories...

yeah i'd have done the same, but like byron says you've only been there a day, and business is business, if a better opportunity comes along I think you should go fo it, but only if you're comfortable doing so, what does your gut feeling tell you?

Yanno, when you first told me you got this job, I was going to ask you what made you decide to go ahead and take it instead of waiting to see who else contacted you lol...

And again, interviews don't hurt anyone...and you can always interview with another company and you both keep each other in mind should you decide to continue on where you're at now. Don't let the guilt of the moment dictate your actions, love...you're an extremely smart woman. You'll know what to do. hug

kiss2 thanks love ..I guess I already know the answer and am looking for confirmation that it is ok....
I will go to the interview and after that IF I get it and IF I still think it's the better job then I will take it and deal with the awkward moment with the other company the best way I can
