ok honestly it's something i've done in the past.

but what i don't quite get though is does one do such thing actually to seek revenge or is it because it sort of provides an excuse for them to justify their failure?

I think I know what you are saying...I know someone that was arguing with their partner and they decided that they were gonna down a bunch of pills in front of them to show them who miserable the other person made them. I think they did this (stupidly) just to make the other person feel like shit - but in the meantime they put their own health at risk.
