OJ did it again

LAS VEGAS - Police arrested O.J. Simpson on Sunday, saying he was part of an armed group who burst into a Las Vegas hotel room and snatched memorabilia that documented his own sports career, long ago eclipsed by scandal.

The arrest starts a new legal odyssey for the fallen football star who more than a decade ago was acquitted of the slayings of his ex-wife and a friend, and opens the possibility he could spend decades behind bars.

Simpson was taken away from The Palms casino-hotel by plainclothes officers a day after the arrest of a golfing buddy who police say accompanied him with a gun in the Thursday night holdup. Handcuffed and wearing a golf shirt and jeans, Simpson was placed in an SUV.

"He was very cooperative, there were no issues," Capt. James Dillon said.

Simpson was to be booked on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit burglary and burglary with a firearm, police said. The district attorney, meanwhile, said he expected Simpson to ultimately be charged with seven felonies and one gross misdemeanor.

If convicted of the booking charges, Simpson would face up to 30 years in state prison on each robbery count alone.

"He is facing a lot of time," said Clark County District Attorney David Roger.

Simpson, 60, has said he and other people were retrieving items that belonged to him. Simpson has said there were no guns involved and that he went to the room at the casino only to get stolen mementos that included his Hall of Fame certificate and a picture of the running back with J. Edgar Hoover.

Simpson told The Associated Press on Saturday that he did not call the police to help reclaim the items because he has found the police unresponsive to him ever since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, were killed in 1994.

"The police, since my trouble, have not worked out for me," he said, noting that whenever he has called the police "It just becomes a story about O.J."

Police did not allege that Simpson personally carried a weapon in the incident.

"We don't have any information to lead us to believe he was armed even based on those charges," said police Lt. Clint Nichols.

this won't make it to trial.

1. non-story if it doesn't involve oj. imagine if somebody stole your stuff, you knew who had it, and then you and your and your friends go get it back. i'd be cursing too.

2. police can't put a weapon in his hand, or even in confirm there were weapons..

3. an audio tape "mysteriously" appears. how many of your "random" events have an audio tape to it? sounds like a borderline set-up/entrapment on the part of one of the guys.

4. on the tape, one of the guys admit the stuff was stolen from oj.

if the DA is smart, he'll let this go. this will blow up in his face worse than the duke non-rape scandal. i don't know why some people won't let this oj thing go. whatever happens in this case won't change the verdict from 12 years ago.

yeah i know they get the money, but people are gonna buy the book because of what he says (or doesn't say), not because the revenue goes to the goldman's. if the book turns out to be successful, look for a follow-up.

if he was joe blow, he'd be out, no doubt. how you get charged with armed robbery for trying to get YOUR OWN SHIT BACK, i dunno. i'm not the biggest oj fan out there, but the way this shit is front page/lead story fodder, i don't blame him for not going to the police.

Double murderer with a flight risk, now accused of 6 felony counts including assault with a deadly weapon = no bail.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I know a joe blow that was charged with armed robbery - not even with guns but a knife and not 6 counts, but one. He was held without bail.

Your joe blow theory is bunk.

I don't get it. One minute people are saying that celebs get special treatment that no names do not get and the next people claim that they are treated unfairly.

I guess people will claim whatever is convenient to try and get a point across.

uhhm....no weapon is placed in his hand. no gun, no knife, nothing. cursing somebody out for stealing your stuff is not a felony. when this all shakes down, don't look for oj to do anytime (the whole thing will probably be dismissed)...the guy it happened to doesn't want to press charges and wants the case dropped, mainly because he knows he's in the wrong as well for possessing stolen goods. stop making it seem like oj just went into the bank and held it up. he went to a hotel room to get his stuff back. end of story. nobody got hit, shoved, stabbed or shot. it makes no sense to keep him without bail. you can't correct perceived wrongs of the past with debunkery.

Yes, and found liable for wrongful death. OJ's no murderer, he just causes unnatural ends to lives through the use of a knife.

Yes, he was. Does that mean that you're ok with all the people in jail that were convicted?

Because I'm not. There are people who were convicted that are innocent, just like there are people who were acquitted that are guilty.

In football , it's called the "make-up" call. When a referee makes a bad a call for one team and the refs know it . They will make it up by calling an equally bad call against the other team .

We'll this is OJ's make-up call. .... only about 10 years too late.
