been tempted or even actually been with a prostitute, either male or female. What are opinions on the profession, do you think they provide an essential service. It is a very risky profession and I think that there should now be laws safeguarding the women/men i.e. healthcare etc. and safe places for them to practice their profession and keep them off of residential streets and keep the drugs issue at bay and the women having to be "looked after" by pimps.

What are your feelings on this emotive issue?

I'd never personally do this myself, either hire myself out, or hire another person. I went to a strip club once and a friend bought me a lap dance and I was frankly embarrassed and uncomfortable. It's not my thing.

On one hand, I think it should be legal so it can be carfeully regulated, so women have the protection they need, it comes down to basic safety.

On the other, I just don't like the idea of it. But me not liking it doesn't mean someone else can't choose it as a viable career choice. There are people who put themselves in unsafe professions all the time (and they get hazard pay to boot) and really it's their choice. But there are many who feel they didn't have a choice, sex slave trade, all sorts of things. There may be women out there who feel empowered by such a decision, but my guess is the vast majority are not doing well for themselves (in every area but monitarily) in that line of work.

It's not a cut and dry issue for me. It's increidbly complex and depending on which way the wind is blowing I may give a different answer. lol.

One thing I DO feel very strongly about is how we treat female sex workers. They are no more or no less than anyone else in the world and should be afforded the same dignity and respect as world leaders, etc.

I think it should be licensed, conditional on drug and disease testing and then I could care less if they were anywhere, my street or special parts of the city.

I have never hired a prostitute, but have spent several nights drinking and talking with various ones. Most that I have met are in it for coke money

Yes I have...When I came in the military for the first time in 1984 (Purple Rain Summer...), I eventually made my way to Germany for my first duty station...and it was a rite of passage for the "newbies" to get laid by the local street entrepreneurs, paid in full by the newbie's NCO chain...it was a vital service to ME since I was a young, pimply face () 18 year old kid who needed a little "worlding" up.....she was roughly about 30-ish.....all I could say was WOW!!!

The modern day military has discovered that the "white slavery" market is booming, and many women are actually under more severe danger than your typical pimp/hooker relationship here in the States...so we are now expressly forbidden to frequent these kinds of establishments in Germany or Korea....no desire to have it appear that the US Military establishment supports the white slavery market...

My friend bought me a lap dance in Vegas and in New Orleans. Im ok with this, but as far as paying for penetration, I just dont agree.

Being a prositute and satisfying older women is something I've sometimes fantasized about, but I don't think I'd ever actually do it. As for being the buyer of sex, I think the simplicity and straightforwardness of it is appealing, but since I'd be worried that she might be into prositution more or less against her will (and also since I'd be concerned about diseases) I wouldn't buy sex either.

I will never understand why men pay for sex.
