Ugh! A close friend almost died, his parents blame it him being gay!

My very close friend has a massive seizure about a month ago. He fell back and cracked his head open on the concrete, was in an induced coma for a week and a half. He almost died three times. He is now awake and struggling with what his doctor calls total amnesia.

His parents have always been ashamed that he is gay. I mean, in high school, he was one of my favorite friends because we were so catty together. Good times!

Now, his parents are almost relishing in the fact that he needs them to care for him, and are restricting people from visiting him. They are now saying that it's because of his lifestyle that this happened to him.

WTF?

the next time something happens to them he should tell them it's because of their "lifestyle".

This is really annoying because we used to always have to hide things from his parents. Right before the accident, he was drinking heavily, and I blame THAT more than anything, but god forbid his parents actually own up to that reality.

The reason he began drinking in the first place is because of his obsessive need to be perfect. He always had this secret pain, thinking that his dad never really loved him because he was gay. He had a promising future as a sales rep for Christian Dior. Now he can't even recognize himself in pictures. He doesn't know who I am, and he stares at me with a sad, vacant look. sad

disbelief How horrible...

My prayers to your friend, gemini...to go thru the physical trauma he has is bad enough, but to have the emotional trauma of having his parents basically telling him he deserved it because of who he is...mg.. neutral

What's worse is that he didn't have health insurance. He is in a rehab facility for only 30 days because that's all the state or county or whatever will let him have. His bill at the hospital alone is $150,000. Then he's at the total mercy of his parents. I hope he recovers as best he can so that he can get out of there.

I was talking about having him come work with me a few weeks before he hurt himself.

Agreed. That is beyond sad that your friend's parents would say that about their own son. disbelief They need a reality check, for real!

He was sitting with his mother on the back patio of her house, had a massive seizure, and then fell backward.

sad So sorry, Karla. I wish him a full recovery and I'm sure things will get better with his parents. Tragedies usually bring people together.

God don't like ugly.

The parents are idiots.

God bless your friend.

This is why so many of us need to get medical power of attorney orders in effect. Don't want idiots showing up and staking claim.
