I can't find the bookcase I want online, but it was in the new catalog and my friend saw it in the store. It's a tall rectangular thing covered in a print in black and white of flowers. It's sooooo cute. If I like it as much as I think when I see it in person, I may get a matching CD tower. I had to rush through the store today, so I completely by-passed shelving and storage. It was the first weekend after the catalogue was distributed, so imagine the crowds. Otherwise I am sure I would have gone and had a look at it, sounds different to the usual stuff. I may go out today to find it now. |

try putting the Hopen bed frame together
and then the joy of it is, when you finally get it finished and it looks great, you get to spend almost as much time (4 hours) taking it apart when you move then you get to put it back together again i almost just left it in my old apartment

I reckon you got really unlucky my sister in law had a lot of problems with the baby cot they bought, because they sold her a return, so it actually had some pieces missing! My whole house is pretty much all IKEA, and the only problem we had was when we bought our shelving for the living room, some pieces were made in germany while others somewhere else, and the wood did not match, and the whole thing was a right pain in the bum to get right

I love assembling IKEA furniture! I wish there was a job like that where I could get paid for doing that.

the last thing I purchased from IKEA was some lamp shades. and that was only becasue they finally got self self checkout registers.
Otherwise my shopping trips to IKEA tend to be look around find a couple small things, then get to the line and decide it not worth standing in line for this garbage.

i finally got a catalogue after 2 years of requesting one online and numerous stops to the store in person and when i got a chance to look through it i was disappointed as nothing really grabs me. same when walking through the store. decided maybe i've moved past ikea i'm soon going to sell my ikea livingroom pieces as they will look too modern next to all these old family antiques.
lol so i just had to go get it to see what shelves you were talking about... billy bookcase black/patterned finish. this one?

Ass Emm beat me to it, I was gonna say it's a BILLY.
And coming from the home of IKEA, I have nothing else to add. There's been other IKEA threads before and I think I said it all on those ones.

My strategy is to make my wife do it. I figure if I carry it in the least she can do is put it together.

ugh six chairs? I am okay with shelves, but get really bored quickly with more complicated stuff like dressers that have multiple drawers to assemble.
Ikea's great, but not the best. I put their stuff together and sometimes the holes aren't perfect, and sometimes it feels very flimsy. Sometimes it better to let the pros assemble it As Homer Simpson said (as he was trying to assemble a barbeque, but had to use the French instructions because he spilled cement on the English ones): "Le grille?! What the hell is that?!" But I know you can do it! My Legacy

How fuckin' cool would it be to have like three of those against a pink or purple wall? Though, only with stuff on it. By itself it gives me a headache. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

My inner child is fine until we get to the orgy of consumerism that is the Checkout Line. Or, the Giant Checkout Space That Is Always Crammed Full Of People. And then we just wanna go home and shop on Etsy. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

I would say that about HALF of the furniture in my house is from IKEA.
I'm not a "handy" guy ...but the IKEA stuff is very, very easy to put together. You just have to study the instructions very, very carefully. The only drawback to IKEA is that the stuff doesn't last very long. But it's cheap and it's nice-looking. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

It's handy and cheap but the making of it employs a lot of children and adult underpaid workers round the world and it makes its owner Ingvar Kamprad one of the world's richest people.
