In Iceland I ate rotten shark because they said it was cultural...that was fucked up. That is TRULY fucked up I tried jellyfish recently, I didn't like that shit. The consistency is about the grossest thing I've ever had in my mouth & they still serve ox tails in soul food restaurants, I don't eat it often but I will slam on a mf ox tail :::realizes I'm coming off as the most questionable person on the thread::: [Edited 9/14/07 14:33pm] jellyfish?!! wtf? reminds me of some fried okra.might as well eat a bucket of snot i was scared of oxtails but i will eat 'em, just give me a bottle of hot sauce and its on

To that end, I would like to contribute these frightening foods - lutefisk head cheese Clamato juice whole chicken in a can (FYI: Actual whole chickens-in-a-can do not, in any way, resemble the fairly appetizing, plump bird depicted on the label.)

To that end, I would like to contribute these frightening foods - lutefisk Oh, so you've not only discovered this Swedish dish, but you've borrowed the name too? Cool. "Lut" is the liquid it simmers in to get its texture and "fisk" simply means "fish". Most people don't eat it here anymore, but those of us that do, eat it around Christmas. I grew up with the tradition of eating it the day before Christmas Eve and we still honour that (half the family can barely even look at it though, and eat homemade meatballs instead). When we prepare it, it looks a bit more like this: Boiled potatoes, green peas, a white sauce and plenty of black pepper. It's actually pretty tasty. Once a year is enough though.

I like most of the stuff on this thread. I mean, eggplant? Jellyfish is pretty tasteless but I definitely don't find it repulsive. Just reminds me of eating squid. Good with the right naam chim dipping sauce. I love liver too. I eat a soup for breakfast a couple of times a week with liver, kidneys and cubes of boiled blood in it. I eat all the 'weird' shit here, except chicken feet and insects.

I'm curious, but for some reason I'm scared to try it for fear that I'll be grossed out You know there's a whole blackmarket underground movement in foodie circles with people trying to smuggle boudin, right ?
