It's about the aftermath of a drowning accident. It has a few really good scenes, a couple of strong characters, and an interesting balance of the serious, the funny and the surreal. It still needs work on a couple of character arcs though, and I'm sure I could get rid of at least one subplot and flesh out the main story instead. I got disctracted by events in my life after the second draft though, and haven't returned to it since.

This is the most interesting thing for a person to tell you, "you have a book in you!"

I've heard this from so many people and finally me and my girlfriend are going to do something with my journal entries and write about spiritual principles that coincide with the life lessons I've learned.

I guess this is the FIRST book.

Written one novel, got a third of the way through a second before I got bored, and in total have written just short of 400 short stories etc. I've had about 30 stories published, including about a dozen in books. What are they about? All sorts. (And Little Smedley - you've read some of them too!)

I had an article published in a journal which I wrote at university. It was considering to what extent Nazism had an influence on the ideology and movement of the German Army.

This sounds oddly familiar. Does it also involve a family grieving in Venice and a little red dwarf?!

Yes, but only really for my own amusement. I don't expect anybody else to enjoy or understand what I'm doing. I loathe the thought of people reading my work and not understanding it or dismissing it as crap becuase of their lack of ability or intelligence. I'm not being arrogant or cunty - I'm talking from experience. Most people can't handle or are blind to real art. JK Rowling will always outsell James Joyce. Johnny Bawbag doesn't come home from work and expect to be challenged morally and intellectually by something he paid money for. His needs are simplistic and borne of a culture of instant gratification. Maybe one day I'll try and entertain as an experiment, write characters with easily identifiable virtues and fears. Anyway, I'm too much of a pedant to be commercially successful. If I ever sold a few books I'd want to go round to all my readers' houses and tell them, line by line, how each line links together like mechanno and to count every reference to a certain colour or the numbers in someone's surname which may or may not allude to the truth behind the lies of the narrative you've been hoodwinked by me to believe is truth or whatever yanno.

My brother has had two novels published, although they were through vanity publishers.

They were still pretty good, though.
