KIRKPINAR YALL!!! (Sexy ancient rituals thread) Ok.
I'm not much into sports, modern day and ancient alike, but damn do I wanna learn how to KIRKPINAR! You wanna do what , you ask. KIRKPINAR!!! http://www.turkishwrestling.com/ Here come the Turks! Are freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling just too tame for you? Is TV “rassling” too phoney? Then you’re ready for Yagli Gures (“yaw-luh gresh”) the gutsy national sport of the greatest fighters in the world. Every year since 1640 Turkey’s best wrestlers – men and boys – have gathered for their national championships on a grassy field near the capitol of the old Ottoman Empire (Edirne). The tournament is called “Kirkpinar,” or “Forty Springs,” in honor of a 17th Century wrestling legend. [my favorite part ] Nearly 1,000 barefoot athletes compete, oiled up and stripped to the waist. The all-out style and the oiled trunks go back to the world-famous Janissaries, an elite fraternity of body guards to the Imperial Sultans. The modern stadium is located bla bla bla... For three days the field is crowded with simultaneous matches in eleven divisions, ranging from school kids to forty-year-old masters. The sun is hot, but the fights are long. Only if there is no winner after a half-hour is the match decided with a “sudden death” overtime. There are few forbidden holds, and grabbing of trunks is not off limits. Despite the fierce aggressiveness, however, and the obvious opportunities for fouling, these Turks demonstrate their essential brotherhood even when struggling to win. If one is injured or gets grass in his eye, for example, it is his opponent who assist..bla bla bla...boring OMG, Isn't this like the best sport ever invented???? And what is your favorite sexy ancient (ok, ok historic) ritual/game/sport??? Stories and pics, please! PS If you have no passion for history, just post pics of sexy sportsppl.... ESKIMO STICK PULL
In this event, two athletes face each other sitting on the ground with their feet pressed together and knees bent. A greased stick one-inch in diameter is placed between them where their feet meet. Each athlete grabs the stick, position their hands so that one person's hands are on the inside, and the other's hands are on the outside. All hands must be touching. Using the legs, arms, back, and a sure grip, the contestants then attempt to pull the stick away from their opponent. The winner is that person who is either able to pull the opponent over, or who can pull the stick out of the opponent's hands, on tow out of three attempts. Each round, the athletes will alternate positioning of their hands. Strength is an important commodity to have when bringing a seal in from the hole in the ice. Another reason that explains why we connect so well; the Dutch tournaments have just ended. They do not like gays much, though. Well, most don't.

Hey, great thread !
I just got back from Türkiye yesterday. There is a picturebook about the Kirkpinar wrestling but I can´t remember the name of the photographer. He´s a Turkish guy who works for the London Times magazine from time to time. When those wrestlers start to fight, they yell "Hoydabre !" and then the fight starts. Those leahther trunks are custom made and quite expensive, and real pros use olive oil, not sunflower oil. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Well, most don't. yes, we both have immense passion for sweaty homoerotic contact sports Next time we meet, we have to practice some of that Kirkpinar. Some sports are just so rewarding. So, are there any hot Dutch customs that should be mentioned in this thread? I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

Capoeira - is a Brazilian fight-dance, game, and martial art created by enslaved Africans during the 19th Century. Participants form a roda (circle) and take turns playing instruments, singing, and sparring in pairs in the centre of the circle. The game is marked by fluid acrobatic play, feints, subterfuge, and extensive use of groundwork, as well as sweeps, kicks, and headbutts. Less frequently, elbow-strikes, slaps, punches, and body-throws are used. Technique and strategy are the key elements to playing a good game. Capoeira has three main styles, known as "regional", "Angola", and the less-well defined "contemporânea". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.
