It certainly won't get you where you're looking to go if you're counterproductive. Any why do you automatically respond to my post and not others' who've said the same thing?

It's cool Dani. At least you've thought about it and didn't immediately dismiss it as something that is ignorant or dumb. For those people I challenge them to ask those who use it, why they do. It would be a step in the right direction, in my honest opinion.

If someones using it as a Political Statement, that is one thing. Like if their debating someone or even discussing how they view the country. I mean thats fine and I'm all for it.

But to use it in day to day conversation or have it out there readily accessable for anyone to read, who is not talking politics...(like in a sig) I don't care for it.

I think of my kids being called AmeriKKKan's.....and it gives a bad taste in my mouth.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I just couldn't feel passionate enough to engage in that debate.
What I thought was funny is the 1st use of the spelling I could think of seeing was in a book fearing a Soviet takeover of America and calling it Amerika.

I would like to know why it is being used here, as in what does it mean to those advocating using it here, is it simply for shock value? What does it mean to them other than parroting something back they saw somewhere else, then REALLY going after it when it raises some discomfort.

I am all for discomfort BTW. Just stir it up on your own.

Since admitting your discomfort with it, the use of the term has increased 10 fold on the org. It is now more to get a rise out of you than to make any statement.

For the people I know who use it, it is the way they feel: not parroting something back they saw somewhere else. They feel this is a racist nation. I used to feel exact the same. I now feel that there are more non-racists people but the ones who are racist go pretty much unchecked.

falloff

I'm a walking contradiction. lol

The sig I'm referring to I had noticed beofre I ever made the thread.

You said it is being used ten fold since I started the thread.

I thought there were other things I didn't notice, and I was like whatever.

No argument from me there. Look no further than members of our own government. Although I think alot of people that have voted for them do so for other reasons, which I think gels with your statement.

But you wouldn't personally use it would you? The right to protest, that's cool, but then it comes down to choice. Ain't nobody being constructive when they use that misspelling, IMO. lol I don't mind someone writing it and can understand why they might. It's up to them. Things can get so bad that stirring things up might be the only option. That's a sad state of affairs but you might tell me that's the reality in the country. Still, there are those that would use it and those that wouldn't. The use of it betrays, to me, a way of thinking that might not be as constructive as it could be. Understandable, perhaps, but not preferable.

I personally wouldn't use it but so what?

I think that it serves its purpose as seen on this thread alone. lol

all I've said that its a political statement. Its no more than that. shrug

So basically Erin, your from Canada. You have knowledge of what goes on here, but when you think of America do you think of the MAJORITY of the country being racist?

How could any rational person NOT think that?

Generalize much? confused I agree that racism is still a problem in the United States but to imply that the only rational conclusion is to think the majority of Americans are racists is not only foolish, it's insulting. Are you American? So it would be rational for me to presume you're racist? And most of the Americans on this message board? Slippery slope --> no no no!

I don't find misspelling AmeriKKKa offensive, it just doesn't seem that original anymore. It's been "done" before. In the 60s I think it was probably more powerful due to the context of the BPM, Civil Rights, Nation of Islam, etc; but now it seems a bit dated to me. IMO, someone (an artist) should come up with an updated & more powerful or creative image that would essentially make the same point as AmeriKKK did in the 60s, while simultaneously reminding people that racism is still an issue.

Well, the policies implemented by Americans in power often have had the same -- or worse -- effects on other people. Many people have unflattering ideas about the United States and have valid reasons for those opinions.

I would encourage you to check out or buy "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. You seem to want to understand why various people hold the opinions they do. Zinn's book is a great starting point.

It's not just America - hate is everywhere. I've heard other people of color(asians, indians, arabs, hispanics) say the most ignorant sh!t about black folks. IMO, most of the world has a low opinion of us. Nothing new. I just accept the fact that a lot of people suck, and I deal with their racial BS the best way I can.
