All my friends are blasting into space! Well, not ALL my friends, but a whole bunch of astronauts I know.
Mike Massimino is going up next August for the second time. He's an engineer, not a military guy. He performed two spacewalks on his first mission, repairing the Hubble telescope. Since STS-125 is going back to repair the Hubble some more, I'd bet Mike will be doing more space walking. Mike is absolutely the funniest storyteller I know. If you ever want to book an astronaut for a speech, try to get Mike. Then, in one year and one week from today, I have two buddies going up together on STS-126. Chris Ferguson will be the commander, and Shane Kimbrough will be a mission specialist. This will be Chris' second flight, and Shane's first. Shane has also been tapped to be a member of a future lunar mission, which means he would get to go to the moon. We will DEFINITELY go the STS-126 launch. I went to a launch a few years ago, but technical problems delayed the launch for a week, and I had to leave before blast off. But not this time. We're staying in Florida until STS-126 takes off!
