Carlos Camejo, a Venezuelan man who had been declared dead


CARACAS (Reuters) - A Venezuelan man who had been declared dead woke up in the morgue in excruciating pain after medical examiners began their autopsy.

Carlos Camejo, 33, was declared dead after a highway accident and taken to the morgue, where examiners began an autopsy only to realize something was amiss when he started bleeding. They quickly sought to stitch up the incision on his face.


"I woke up because the pain was unbearable," Camejo said, according to a report on Friday in leading local newspaper El Universal.


His grieving wife turned up at the morgue to identify her husband's body only to find him moved into a corridor -- and alive.


Reuters could not immediately reach hospital officials to confirm the events. But Camejo showed the newspaper his facial scar and a document ordering the autopsy.

This reminds me of a Stephen King short story I read a few years ago. Can't remember the name, but it was creepy.

So these medical examiners didn't notice any breath, pulse, warmth to the flesh..nothing? They just received a 'dead' body, performed absolutely no sort of even cursory pre-exam and immediately whipped out the scalpels?

I saw this exact same thing happen on an episode of CST Las Vegas...could you imagine...I think on the show the reason they said they didn't notice they guys still alive was that his breathing was so shallow that you couldn't tell or something to that affect..but it looks like to avoid such a thing, they would hook someone up to a heart monitor or something to make sure there wasn't activity somewhere ..

Wow, that is freaky!! Glad to hear that the man was not dead, but damn, what a thing to have happen to you!

Fuck yes he should sue. There are so many damn precautions to take before an autopsy and you mean to tell me that they couldn't do a pulse test, breathing, anything? Yes his ass should definitely sue.
