Purging .....

I just spent the weekend going through most of my things. Trying to purge everything that I do not NEED in my life as far as material possessions.
As most of you know I am moving far away so I am trying to sort out the needs from the wants in my life.
I am quite proud of the amount of things that I threw into a box and donated to charity. I know to some it was just junk like most all of my Christmas and autumn decorations but much of it was fairly new in good condition. I kept maybe 5 small sentimental Christmas ornaments that would not take make room in the few boxes that I am shipping over. we boxed up my yearbooks which now I feel like taking out and throwing away...not really a need. I am still sorting through clothes though I already have a huge pile to give away so far.
Has anyone else purged most everything they have?
It is a strange feeling.

It sure is. I never thought I was a very material person until I saw all of the stuff in the attic...lol

Time to let it all go and start over fresh.

biggrin

I had a feeling you were going to make a sick reference to purging food when you saw my thread Spooky. I am proud... giggle

Thank you hug

It was easier because I had someone picking on me and laughing at my Christmas stuff so I threw it in boxes without thinking too much about it.
I hope to have it all down to about 5 totes to ship. Not including my clothes.
Most of my winter clothes are now in England.

Yes it's about time I did this too.

My next major life challenge is to find
a new place of my own, so I'm getting ready
to sort the wheat from chaff now, too....

... how exciting it must be to finally
realise something you've been building up
to for for so long!

highfive

Don't throw away your yearbooks, you'll regret it later.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

I once purged the hard way, in june of 1990 my house burned down along with 510 other homes here in town, in a massive fire. sad
from that expierence I have learned, the only real things that are important and have meaning are your family pictures and keeps sakes. Everything else can be replaced, believe me.

You are so right. I am sorry you had to go through that. I try to think of it that way. At least I am not being forced to lose everything.
