What movies do you think are overrated?

Almost Famous

cute movie. but nothing great, I thought.

it has 2 major strikes against it, in my book, apart from not being a great movie (to me).

1. a fake band
2. a group of people spontaneously bursting out in song (Tiny Dancer)

And what, pray tell, is so hard to believe about that, Mr. Forever? Hmmm?

I really agree with this one. When I saw it - I was thinking... "This is it?"
I mean, like, where is the sun?

in a musical, it's great. in a regular movie, it makes me barf

and this also why i hate the songs "American Pie," "Piano Man," and "Brown Eyed Girl" ... because they cause this phenomenon to happen in real life. at bars, at parties, on bus trips..... KILL ME

Meet the Parents

cute movie. but not the instant classic it seems to have become.

in fact, most* movies with Robert Deniro in a comedic role (for example Analyze This and that one with Eddie Murphy) can go on this list

* = barring The King Of Comedy

Crouching Tiger was indeed entertaining and well-made, but flashbacks should never be longer than actual time. evil

Titanic is inexcusable cheese! wink However, I've been accused of the same, so I'll allow it...this time...wink

no way! the flashback is part of why i love this movie. it made it feel like a classic Hollywood epic of an era gone by.

ah! saw Titanic 7 times in the theater. cried every single time wink

The flashback made me lose interest. It could have made its own movie. They should have made it that way!

As for Titanic, I guess you can have that if I can have Grease! That's some cheese I love eating! biggrin

come on now... "overrated"? biggrin who overrates those god-awful things biggrin

i like to think of Desperately Seeking Susan as the beginning and end of Madonna's acting career. it's a lot less imbarrassing that way wink

BAD KITTIES. The Star Wars movies are NOT overrated!

I find the Matrix to be absolutely overrated. Bad acting by the lead (obviously) and absolutely boring at times. I got so antsy when I saw it that my boyfriend gave me money to go get popcorn, and he told me to not come back for at least 10 minutes...

barf
the matrix

eek

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" has got to be one of my favorites. It's so good cause its so fucking simple - some kids playing hooky. But Cameron learns in the end that he must defend himself to his overbearing and insensitive father if he is to have any self-respect. And it's about not conforming to society - breaking out and rebelling for the sake of living - at least for a day. Besides, it's funny, too. big grin

...getting off my soapbox... wink

Actually, "Hoop Dreams" was directed by Steve James. Still, a great documentary film. big grin

Okay... all you super film buffs will want to kill me now... but...

CITIZEN KANE is terribly overrated in my opinion. I liked it, but it was NOT the best movie ever made.

There, I've said it.

Mulholland Drive, definitely. Some thought it was brilliant (0,1%), some say it was brilliant (40%), most admit they did not get it (70%). I did not get it after 2 viewings, so i suppose most did not get it either. Now i don't have to 'get' a film or book all the way 2 like it, but this movie was pushing it. Bsides, and i never thougt i'd say this of a Lynch movie, i got bored after 90mins. And i'm not easily bored.

Other overrated movies:
A.I.
Monster's ball
The man who wasn't there (came close though)
mmm...i'll think of some more, can't we start a most underrated movies topic, that's easier.
