The Possession Of Joel Delaney Has anybody ever seen this movie? I "obtained" it the other week and it was one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen.
If you haven't seen it, don't go to IMDb and read up on it, as the message boards there are pretty spoilerific. It's being released on DVD in the UK, on October 22nd: http://www.amazon.co.uk/P...B000V6AEOA I wasn't expecting much from the movie. I mean, people tell you that films are scary or terifying and usually they're just gross. It was made in 1971 and stars Shirley Maclaine and Perry King as her younger brother (in his first movie role). Strangely, it was directed by the man whom directed the first ever episode of Doctor Who in 1963. I don't know what it is about movies made in the 1970s, but they always have this eerie quality... Maybe it's because I associate the fashions, music and hairstyles with my childhood - I don't know. The 1970s was probably my favourite era for movies. The lines between Hollywood and the independents were so blurred at that point. Even the TV Movies were better in the 1970s. Anyway, the film starts off one way and then it goes another. There's a weird almost incestuous vibe between Shirley Maclaine's character and Perry King's character. Guests at a party even comment on him being "too young for her". So, I thought that the movie was going to be about the older sister's "possessiveness" towards her younger brother... But no - it's about an actual demonic possession. In places, the film is campy, schlocky, surreal and feels very dated. There's a sequence in which Shirley Maclaine attends a Santera Ritual and she comes across as being really hammy - fanning herself and holding her hand up to her forehead etc. It's really not "jump-out-of-your-seat" scary... But as the movie progresses, it just feels ickier and ickier. One minute you think it's going to be like 'Rosemary's Baby' with everybody hiding something and the next it's like a slasher movie with decapitated heads in the kitchen. It's just really odd. The last ten minutes of the film are the most disturbing I've ever seen. There's very little blood or shocks even - it's just very, very disturbing. It stayed with me for days - and a movie hasn't done that to me in years. So, pre-order it on Amazon UK and prepare for a treat. Just stay away from any reviews until you've watched it.

I have to get my hands on this movie.I remember in the 80's there was a movie of the week that was about the possession of some boy but I forget the title. That movie was also very disturbing for a made for t.v. movie. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"
