I would have to say seeing Bush get elected in 2000, then 2004.

3am-ish on my way home from work - watched a dude on a mortorcycle get decapitated ...

downtown Detroit ... another late night after a huge concert at the Joe - watched a girl kill (stab) the dude she was with

that was kinda a bizarre event

I have seen some bizarre "supernatural" things as well

peace!

Well the last thing was this kid wearing a wear wolf mask on the streets on Lima, Peru. He was passing folks by and giving them the finger. He then proceeded to walk into a lamppost!

I am dead serious. I've been inside of houses of witch doctors/psychics with rats scurring around their houses, with old creeky wooden floors, and strange things inside jars, etc. etc., or outside a 'voodoo' church where there were stains of on the road where a 'witch' had been mutilated by machetes and burned to ashes leaving only a stain for me to witness (they discarded what was left of her). And the list goes on and on.

But the strangest thing ever was witnessing George Bush take the presidency twice. Once though he was utterly unqualified compared to his rival, and the second time, after he'd already started the mess that we're in now. I seriously, and I mean this as sincerely as I can, thought that the people of the nation had lost their damned minds.

Not to mention that he didn't actually win the first time. I enjoy conspiracy theory, but don't generally believe it. But how else do you explain what happened in the state where his brother just happened to be Governor?

MOst recently, though, the strangest thing I see is that there is this man who jogs around my neighborhood. It's on a winding mountain road, but it's a neighborhood, so there are sidewalks on both sides of the road.

But this guy jogs in the middle of the street, right on the double yellow line!! Did I mention the sidewalks?

I beeped my horn at him and he turned around, totally outraged at me, the young punk. I only hoped that he shared his story to his friends & family "this jerk honked at me while I was jogging, you know, in the middle of the street..." and they all responded "WWHAT?? YOU JOG IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET???!!"

I don't know about the conspiracy theory as far as the Supreme court goes, but it isn't a "theory" that tens of thousands of eligible African American votes were thrown out because they 'matched' names of convicted felons.

In a State where it vote came down to just over 500 votes in Bush's favor, those wrongly thrown out ballots would have won it for Gore, and we wouldn't be in the serious mess we're in. I disagree with all the Bushees that Nation was in a better state after 911 with a Republican white house--look at us now. lol

But Florida is so fucked up cause even though Catherine Harris didn't get elected, Rhonda Storms, who I would consider ideologically as bad or worse than Bush, did. Folks need to eyeball her career. She's been vehemently anti-progressive in my county, and now the state. Just wait till she tries for the presidency--and I would believe that one day she will.

I can only hope that the socially progressive youth will finally get to the age were they start voting regularly before that happens, cause the 'shift' to the left will happen I believe. At least, I hope. shrug

But I digress and don't mean to jack this thread. But if folks understood just how illogical and bizaar it seems to so many of us Americans that we have this president in charge, you'd understand, we absolutely feel like we're living in a very nasty dream.

yeah the conspiracy isn't really the bizarre part, but that the race was so close to begin with. It's really embarassing to be an American for the first time in my life.

I kept thinking to myself, how in the hell does Jesus trump every gain that was mad the previous 8 years?

Let me tell you boo, I never ever cared about voting or politics until Bush was elected the first time. I'm ashamed to say, that's what it took to get my out there and vote. redface

haha, don't be embarassed. I stopped voting as a protest to all politicians. I figured my non-vote was actually a vote that said I hated the party system and dem or republican, they're all old white rich men.

But just like you, I started voting again once Bush was elected, because the lesser of two evils was a huge difference all of the sudden.

Do U feel they are more left than right though?

I think it's only a matter of time before they start voting. Something happens when you hit your 30's--you start thinking you have an obligation to change things.

as a whole, i want to say it's more to the left, but the areas i've lived in have always been more conservative so my personal experience has been that there's more leaning that way. and why wait until you're in your 30s?! i don't understand how people don't feel an obligation to vote NOW, especially ones who were first really politically aware during these fucked up Bush years.

I have voted in every election since I turned 18. I feel its my civic duty as many people finer than my self struggled and died to get me that right. I am a Guliani Republican. Conservative on economic and foreign affairs but on social issues such as Gun Control, Abortion, Gay Rights, and Immigration I am very liberal.

It truly is sad. Whenever I go to vote, they are surprised to see me there because very few people that are around my age go to vote in my town. They just don't give a damn about what is going on.

Much as I didn't like the first Bush or the first gulf war, I thought that stuff happened all the time (less publicly) and that it didn't directly affect my life.

So I figured, who cares which guy in a suit lies to us?

Are you serious? That is so stupid confused

My parents really instilled the importance of voting when I was younger. They grew up in Dominican Republic while Trujillo was in power and back then, people had no voice in what was happening. The government was very oppressive.

I had few worries when it was Gore v.s Bush. Gore was obviously the best suited for the position, and Clinton's years left 'relatively' little for the nation to cry about--sure there were things that needed adressed, but compared to now? no comparison. So to me, even though, I secretly dreaded the idea of a Bush administration, I never thought I'd see it. I seriously sat stunned when he won. Not just that he won, but like you mentioned that it was even close.

It all stemmed from Clinton getting his dick sucked. That's the most shocking part. I was beside myself, and quite angry that Clinton would allow a remarkably successful run at the whitehouse, come to a crashing halt with his stupid ass libido. And equally disturbed that the nation would consider this in it's deicion to elect Bush--I mean, if you thought his answers during the debates with Kerry were bad, I remember laughing and cringing at them when he debated Gore. I simply didn't take him seriously and never thought he'd fuck us over the way he did.

I just stuns me that gay rights, women's reproductive rights, and national health car assurances are "issues". Those are givens. Pass them into law, and let's move on. Damn.

Seriously, I have to thank George Bush--he got me voting.
