Muse, Ray Charles And Black Coffee. RHONDAAA!

So I woke up early, as a naighbour was so nice to run his bleedin' circlesaw at 7:15AM. Have been updating my Prince live folder (all the titles should have the added '[live]'-tag, so peeps at last.fm know I am not listening to the regular version. Ray Charles' I Got A Woman's playing now.

Then I pounced Muse's HORRID avatar (and Carrie; yours sucks too) and made a potta coffee.
Now I am happy.

And I also played http://www.startgames.nl/...menu_name=

Which is WAAAAY addicting. And now RhondaB's fave artis Justin Timberlake is playing. wink

Bitch. neutral

lol And I *do* like ABBA, Kylie and Madonna - amongst many, many other things. wink

Now you or Lars would be able to describe what makes that album so brilliant FAR better than I can but, for me, it is complete genius. Brimming with ideas and inspiration. It's sort of his 'Earthling' but done much, much better. far better executed.

I adore Brian Eno. Have you read 'A Year With Swollen Appendices'? Fantastic book!

I don't have a huge amount of material by Brian Eno, admittedly, but he is someone I highly, highly admire. In fact, I'd go on to list him as one of my heroes. nod He is an absolute visionary - always miles ahead of the pack.

I originally read an interview with him in Arena magazine (from the same year 'Nerve Net' was released, I think) and was astounded by it. And the fact that he has worked with so many of my beloved artists - Bowie, Talking Heads, Roxy, to name a few - together with his approach and his IDEAS totally peaked my interest. So I was a convert by the time 'A Year With Swollen Appendices' was published.

I know you want to know *my* opinion on it but, first, here's the blurb from wikipedia:

The book published by Faber and Faber in 1996 is divided into two sections. The first part is a diary covering the year 1995, the second part, the 'swollen appendices' of the title is a collection of essays, short stories and correspondence. The cover photograph is by Anton Corbijn.

'I've never kept a diary past about 6 January (so I know a lot about the early Januaries of my life), but at the end of 1994 I made a resolution to keep one for 1995. I did it because I wanted to schedule in advance some of the things that Anthea and I don't get round to doing often enough - going to the cinema, the theatre, galleries and so on. The preplanning idea failed within weeks...

—Brian Eno, Introduction to A Year with Swollen Appendices

The diary covers the year 1995, which proved to be particularly productive for Eno. It details four different musical projects he was involved in, the album Spinner with Jah Wobble, the U2 project Passengers Original Soundtracks 1, David Bowie's Outside and the War Child Charity album The Help Album as well as exploratory sessions with the band James.

In addition it covers various other projects Eno was involved in, in particular his opposition to the attacks on Bosnia by Croatia. Throughout the diaries there is correspondence between Eno and Stewart Brand, largely dealing with this subject.

The appendices cover a number of different topics with some of the writing dating as far back as 1978. The essays cover subjects closely linked with Eno such as Ambient music, Generative music, Music copyright, the role of an artist and art. In addition there is correspondence, interviews and short stories.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...Appendices

As Eno himself says, it's not your bog-standard 'Took Fluffy to the vet today' -type lol diary and doesn't follow the diary format stringently. It's just a collection of random, and pertinent, events in that year.

When I first bought it, I was fascinated by what he would have to say but I was also keen to get an insight into what he got up to with U2 and Bowie, in particular. But there are very few revelations. It's not warts-n-all. It is more a peek into Brian's world and - DAMN - that man is busy! He has a workload that rivals Prince. nod It is fascinating.

As for the appendices, it's a collection of his essays and curiosities. Completely mind-blowing. If you do not agree with what he has to say exactly, then he will at least challenge what you think.

I haven't read it for quite a while so I need to re-jig my memory, really, but I highly recommend it.
