I've been thinking of moving anyway, this just speeds up my process. I may even start looking for something for the end of Septemeber. What do you look for in an apartment? UPDATE - It's official. I have to be out by the end of the month. Now I'm freaking out. That is NUTS!!!! I wish you luck on finding a place Carrie! As long as roaches are not involved, you have a good apartment. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"

We just moved from a 2 bedroom 2 full bathroom unit in a nice building with underground parking and our balcony overlooked Battle Creek and the surrounding park and woods with tons of wildlife and we were only paying $819. This is in Maplewood which is a about 20 minutes from Minneapolis.
But seriously I would at least take a look at buying. It's much more affordable then you might think especially when you consider the tax ramifications. I know it's good advice, but my first and foremost thing I have to think about is quality of life and that's something that would drastically, drastically decline for me if I lived in a suburb. It's just not in me. I do think about buying someday, but my lifestyle would have to change quite a bit for me to afford it on my own and I'm not ready for that yet. Same reason I don't buy a nice, newer car. I like my traveling too much to give it all up. People are asking me all the time how I can afford to flit off all over the country and world all the time and it's cause I give up lots of other things to do it. Nice house and nice car are the big ones. And I'm fine with that. I'm one of the least materialistic people I know. I really don't own much of anything when you come down to it, and the things I do own aren't worth much of anything. Trust me the burbs arent a place for single folk..... Although I love it here ....I am isolated...

I understand where you are coming from and pretty much lived by the same motto for a long while but now that I am a home owner I can't describe the sense of pride I have every time I walk into MY little house with all the rooms actually painted colors I like instead of boring apartment white. If I can only take 1 or 2 vacations a year instead of the 3 or 4 I have been taking I think it's worth it because it feels great. [Edited 9/1/07 22:46pm]

Let them take you to court. They do not have the right to just kick you out. They can raise the rent but not just kick you out that fast. And unless they gave you a 30 day notice of a rent increase in writing. they can not raise the rent. (but chances are the 30 day written notice (it HAS TO BE WRITTEN) to vacate has a rent increase if you do not move.
