2 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, 2 screened porches, garage and attic...sounds great huh? Oh..... the downside... It is probably 45 mins away from Imago. No worries for me since he ignores me but for you Carrie...that would be within stalking distance for sure. They'd have to reduce my rent and pay my restraining order fees, but I'd consider it!

I'm looking for a new place too. I can't deal with living right downtown and having a little one. The two just don't mix.
So again I need: 3 bedrooms (2 large, 1 smaller is ok) hardwood floors off ground floor but no higher than 3rd floor en-suite laundry or laundry on-site dining room large living room 4 piece bath and this time I want a yard. [Edited 8/31/07 15:28pm]

Ya, I am getting a new car. I'd prefer a townhouse/duplex/garden home. The rental market here is retarded. A decent sized 2 bedroom apartment - not house - starts around $850/$900 (that's in the not so great parts of town) and can go as high as $2700...and I am looking for a 3 bedroom. I'm hoping that going outta town a bit will reduce the rent a bit.

I've been thinking of moving anyway, this just speeds up my process. I may even start looking for something for the end of Septemeber. What do you look for in an apartment? Make sure it's not haunted, I'm serious.

I'm going to walk aournd my nighborhood this weekend and look for "for rent" signs and hopefully get just that. Good Luck Carrie. My move came unexpected just recently, however I have been looking for years, but stayed because the price was so low, unheard of low. I kept my patience concerning the community, because I had the best neighbors. Then they told me after 25 + years they were finally moving, that instant I knew I would be looking the next day too. I loved driving into interested areas, jotting the numbers down and investigating price or even setting up appts to see the place. However, another deal came up that I could not pass and I can honestly say, it does feel very much like Home, I mean you can own your home pick out the way it looks (inside and out), decorate it just so... but even then, it could generally not feel like home. Maybe it's the time in my life that concludes the feeling of a relaxing home as well... everything feels mighty comfy and it happened so quick. Good with your search!

Be careful you don't move into a haunted one. Apartments in general are paranormal gateways.
Just by nature. But if you are hoping for a haunted one. Then, enjoy the shadow highway. Mmmmm, Like she need the extra cleavage.

Carrie my advice is to at least look in the burbs. We just moved from a 2 bedroom 2 full bathroom unit in a nice building with underground parking and our balcony overlooked Battle Creek and the surrounding park and woods with tons of wildlife and we were only paying $819. This is in Maplewood which is a about 20 minutes from Minneapolis.
But seriously I would at least take a look at buying. It's much more affordable then you might think especially when you consider the tax ramifications.

Everything I have now (separate cottage/house, no shared walls, bathtub, cuteness, great location near public transport, parking). But I hope to eventually upgrade to more space including an extra room for a writing/film editing studio and a spot for a piano. A yard, a view, and laundry would be, like, a dream come true!

I know it's good advice, but my first and foremost thing I have to think about is quality of life and that's something that would drastically, drastically decline for me if I lived in a suburb. It's just not in me. I do think about buying someday, but my lifestyle would have to change quite a bit for me to afford it on my own and I'm not ready for that yet. Same reason I don't buy a nice, newer car. I like my traveling too much to give it all up. People are asking me all the time how I can afford to flit off all over the country and world all the time and it's cause I give up lots of other things to do it. Nice house and nice car are the big ones. And I'm fine with that. I'm one of the least materialistic people I know. I really don't own much of anything when you come down to it, and the things I do own aren't worth much of anything. |

Use a locater service. Heck some areas have locater that will move your stuff for free.
The last time I was looking, I drove around and there was this one nice place. I went in and they said that had no units to rent. But when I called a 'move for free locater' place, the first complex they mentioned was the one I went to. And the moved all my stuff out of storage!

I tried one when I was moving 2 apartments (about 7 years?) ago, though, and wasn't impressed. I think my problem is the kind of apartment I'm looking for probably wouldn't use one of those services. I prefer small buildings with only a handful of units if possible. And most of those go by an ad or just a for rent sign outside. My friends and I usually find the best apts here by walking or driving around and looking. |

I've been wanting something bigger for a while. I just have the very real realization that I'm going to be paying a lot more than I am no matter what happens. So that kinda sucks. |

I won't leave Minneapolis and I'm gonna try my best not to even leave my current neighborhood. A friend of mine recently needed to move and found a place just 2 blocks from mine with a minimal of looking. I'm actually gonna get his landlord's number so I can see if there are any more openings in his building. But his building is a little big for my taste. I'd prefer something smaller, but it would do. |
