I would definitely go with an HP. I got one for college and it's the best computer I've ever had. It was a great value for all the stuff it came with, including a TV tuner (which my friend just bought for 100 dollars for his Macbook). They really are built for entertainment and come with just about every kind of port you could think of...I haven't even figured out what some are for yet. Then it has cool features like a built in recovery partition, so you don't have to worry about buying disks and Quickplay which means you don't have to even turn it on to play DVDs and music. The new dv9000s look niiiiice....

I need to add another question about the ones everybody's listed so far:

Can they take a beating? I'm really rough on my current laptop and I have to travel a lot so I need something pretty sturdy.

There are HP, Sony, and Dell models specifically designed to "take a beating".

Though honestly, I stopped looking at PC laptops months ago. I'm just biding time so I can go with Mac when the refresh the laptop line. Even then, I may cave and do it before Christmas with the line they have once OS-X leopard is released. If style and aesthetics are high on your list, seriously consider a Mac. Sure, there are stylish laptops out there, but fuck are those Macs hot.

Well, style is nice which is why the new iMac was high on my list, especialy since money is not a concern for this. But, I rather have something reliable. If I can get a Dell that reliable and can take a beating, I'd get a Dell.

Last year during this IT training thing I did, they had this kind of "laptop fair" and a Dell guy was showing off one computer where he had it halfway open, put it on the ground at a 90 degree angle and STOOD on top of it...so yeah, they're sturdy little suckers.

Gotcha. If you go with an PC, than go with HP in my opinion. I find them to be less of a fuss, and aesthetically just as nice.

I'm just really looking forward to swapping to mac though lol. Vista ended up being Windows XP juiced up, and the damned Windows registry is still being used, so I haven't even swapped to Vista yet, though it looks almost as nice as OS-X visually.

My pretty pink Dell has been delayed yet again. I initially ordered it at the beginning of July. It has been delayed several times and now I'm wondering if I'll ever get it.

pout

Why dont you get onto them then?

Because they are simply backed up. I knew it was back ordered when I ordered it, just not this long.

Mara

I switched in '02.

Have had my iBook going on five years now.

Getting MacBookPro with Duo once Leopard is released, hopefully.
