C'mon - spill the beans. We've all had them... That gig that was absolutely rubbish.

Maybe it was by one of your favourite artists and you left disappointed? Or you'd been dragged along by a mate? Maybe you'd only ever bought their Greatest Hits and went along to investigate? Maybe you were chucked out?

my best friend got us tickets (she also got herself a ticket for the following night's gig at a different venue). So she turns up at my place, we doll ourselves up, have a couple of drinks, decide we have plenty of time to get to the concert and catch a cab with 5 mins to spare, thinking we weren't too keen on the support act.

Get there, walk in. The band is not on stage, everyone is clapping and screaming. They come on and do 2 songs and then the lights come on and people start to leave. We were like "wtf!"

Turns out Kerri had the start time from the next night's gig, so we only saw the encore

We decided to go get drunk instead and on the way to the pub we found fifty bucks on the footpath and we saw my friend's band Funk Fiction who were much better anyway

i've talked about it on here before, but for me it's probably the 2nd time i saw prince. the show was great, but i spent half the time upset because of a fight with my boyfriend. oh, and finding out earlier this summer that linkin park really is as boring live as on their cds.

I saw Cannibal Corpse play when I was 18 or 19. I had no idea who they were, but I had free tickets and nothing to do so me and my friend John and one of his friends went. They would introduce songs in this very angry growly voice by saying things like

SHE WAS FOUND DEAD,

MUTILATED

AND RAPED!



and then angry thrashing guiter would explode. My friends and I watched from the balcony at first avenue and giggled. At one point between songs the guy yelled out

MINNEAPOLIS

IS COVERED

IN SAAAAAUCE!

and I turned to John and said, sauce? wtf? And he burst out laughing. Sores. Minneapolis is covered in sores.

Ween. They had sold out a small venue (during the 'Choclate & Cheese'-tour) and were surprised by that.....therefore the fucked us over! 1.5 hours of terrible 'music' was ours.....fuckers!

I've been trying to think what mine was and it must be when I went to see Bryan Ferry in Bristol - I still like his albums but live?? I just don't enjoy seeing him in concert these days. He seems to be going through the motions.

Anyway, the venue was horrible, Bryan Ferry seemed to wheeze throughout the entire gig, I was the youngest person there... I thought 'This is it! The last time I see him". Then, in the interval, I found out that a mate's dad had died then go and see the second half of the show. You can imagine how that felt - I couldn't wait for it to end.

Ride operator in a water park when I was a teenager. You can see only so many bikinis during the course of a day and focus on your job...

Prince, in Stockholm a number of years ago. His latest album was New Power Soul and for some reason he'd decided to go on some kind of quickie tour afterwards. He had a shell of a piano on stage with a keyboard inserted into it () and then played pretty much only medleys! I couldn't believe it, he just didn't finish a single song properly, just rushed through lame versions of the hits and then danced a bit during the new tracks (which were crap). Really disappointing.

I bet that WAS disappointing, being Prince! I sorta relate - I saw the New Power Soul show at Wembley Arena in '98 and was blown away. Four rows from the front - fantastic! Then I went to see him at Brixton Academy two nights later and it was a much different affair. It was more of an extended jam session - which was a first for me - and I kept thinking 'Where's Prince? Bugger off Doug E. Fresh!' . But I know better to expect anything out of a Prince gig now. I think that was the one that taught me.

Having said that, I have read other Orgers' comments about that gig and they loved it.

I don't mind jam sessions. In fact, I sometimes prefer them, especially if the alternative is a long sequence of hits that I've heard played a thousand times already. What I didn't like about this show was that it was so rushed, and only featured snippets. It was the only time that a Prince performance just felt like "a day's work" for him. As far as I understand he's way more consistent these days, at least on the big tours. During the One Nite Alone tour he even used the same phrases in his in-between song talks sometimes, which borders on being lame. At least people were getting the goods delievered each time, for better and for worse.

We went to see the Dave Matthews Band and it was a shocker!

I expected them to be great live, the performance was very disappointing!

I think the fans were the worst part! Bland Bland Bland!

A friend an I won free tickets to go and see one of our Aussie musicians James Reyne, we also has passes to the b4 and after party. James was so bad we left halfway through and didnt even bother with the after party because if we had I would have flet compelled to tell him just how bad he sucked!!

Agreed - if he did a jam session now, I'd be famming out but that was only the third time I'd seen him. At that point, I think I expected every major gig to be more of a 'spectacular', having been spoiled the previous two times. Plus, it taught me to have NO expectations, Prince-wise. Now, though... I'd appreciate it a lot more.

But, yeah, I am very pleased he is back into performing whole songs again and seems to have shelved the medleys/snippets aspect. I'd much rather much hear fully developed, fleshed-out songs than be teased with the intros of 10 different tracks.
