Owen Wilson is reportedly in a serious condition in a Los Angeles hospital after a suspected suicide attempt.

The Wedding Crashers star was admitted to St John's hospital in Los Angeles early this morning (AEST) after the police department responded to a medical assistance call from the fire department around midday, according to celebrity website and magazine reports.

Wilson was then transferred by ambulance to another LA hospital, the Cedars Sinai, around 9am (4pm Sunday, local time) where his condition was initially listed as "grim". He has since stabilised.

A well known Los Angeles criminal attorney and police were present at the hospital, according to reports. Wilson's two brothers were also there.

Owen's brother, Luke, was seen leaving the Cedars Sinai in a BMW with a blond friend several hours after Owen was transferred, Entertainment Tonight reported.

National Enquirer editor-in-chief David Perel told gossip website PerezHilton.com that Owen's brother Andrew "found him after the suicide attempt and called an ambulance".

"Both of Owen's wrists were slashed superficially and Owen had taken an overdose of pills.

"Owen was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him."

He's an intelligent and funny and creative guy, which unfortunately puts him in the risk zone for suicide, so I wouldn't be entirely surprised if this is true. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for a full recovery.

I understand how that can be things can get heavy like that sometimes for people. He's a good actor and I enjoy his movies I hope he pulls through okay.
