Did you read anything she wrote about motivation? lol

Everyone has their opinions, but I think it could be a good option if she feels it will motivate her - some of us need more than just exercise & the one bad meal thing she's doing now definitely needs to change. How does "just exercise" help that? & how does it motivate? confused smile

Hi Csq. I did indeed read it. I find places like that to be stiffling and anything but motivational. The hardest thing to do is self motivate but it is the truest form of motivation. If she can do that then there is no stopping you. I indeed agree that its each to their own in regard to what works for somebody. A question needs to be asked though.. Why do people who join weightwatchers never leave? Surely that time could be better spent... Even if it means getting a jogging partner.

I hear you. It definitely shouldn't be looked @ as a permanent thing or some ongoing support group imo, but a kick-start to get on the road to eating better - what to eat & how often. I've never been so I'm really not sure if it encourages you to stand on your own two & get out OR if it's more corny & fat-campish. shrug I'm just all for trying something & eventually finding the road that works for you smile

Of course... what works for one may not work for the other. I just have a terrible dislike of these huge companys that fthrive and survive off of those who are at their lowest in regard to their self-esteem and physical apperance

On a different note, martial arts are a great way to meet people of all ages, shapes and sizes and to get into crazy shape! Plus you are learning to protect yourself at the same time.

Good Luck!

I did weight watchers when I was in high school. I lost 20 pounds. I liked it.
Now I just wish I could get down to the weight I was before I even joined. lol

Some people are in it for life because you have to change the way you live for the rest of your life. I agree that some of these companies DO prey on insecurities but having gone through weight watchers I don't feel it is one of them. It was actually quite helpful and motivational. And it teaches you to eat healthy for the rest of your life. My problem was that I quit. I quit following the program and I quit the meetings. Had I stayed and stayed with the eating and exercise habits I wouldn't be where I am today. As for your friend not losing anything, my guess is she goes to the meetings once a week but isn't following the diet and exercise plan. Maybe weight watchers isn't for her.

I'm not going to bitch at you. I think if it works for you then good for you! Congrats.

Wow, that's a lot of weight lost quickly.

Did you cut out carbs completely? My mom's done that before and she lost a lot of weight, but she put it back on as soon as she started eating carbs again.

I just cut out sugar and processed flour. I eat about 20 g of carbs per day but it's mostly salad right now. I will add in good carbs as the weeks progress. It works well if you stick to it, but that's the hard part.

Good for you if you can do it! I know I couldn't. I could maybe do low carb, but not cut out sugar and flour and all else completely. I may as well just eat meat and lettuce for the rest of my life. lol Good luck! Let us know how much you lose!

I found it to work well. I just couldn't stick with counting points for over a couple years and have gained the weight back.

Portion control, counting everything you eat and the weekly weigh in's are all motivators. It made me invent so tasty dishes just to keep them at a low point value per serving.

Exercise is critical but not really emphasized in WW. Start with a little walk everyday, that's major to anyone who's not been doing anything.

In any case, good luck to you, Erin.
I think I've decided I like food more than I like spending every waking minute obsessing over it, which is the only way I was able to lose weight. It had to be on the forefront of my mind every single minute of every single day and I frankly just couldn't keep up with it. I'd rather not worry about it anymore. Now I'm working on accepting that I'm just gonna be fat forever and be OK with that. I'm still planning on getting back to a regular exercise routine, but it's going to be doing things I enjoy, like the yoga and maybe some dance classes or something. And of course my walks around the lake, weather permitting. And whatever I may happen to look like as a result, well, that's just the way it will be.
I'm not sure which is easier, though. lol

I like Splenda. I am addicted to pepsi. sigh I have one every day.

i gag on splenda ..tho it seems everything diet wise is made with spenda now rolleyes

I actually eat pretty healthily, although, I'm not going to lie, I love cookies and muffins and all that crap, but I rarely eat it.I don't drink soda or juices. I only drink milk, water, and occasionally I'll have some wine or a beer. My main problem is exercise. I'm super lazy about it. I have a treadmill, but I get so bored walking on it. I think I may start walking and/or jogging at a park near my house. That should be more fun and I'll probably buy some dumbbells.

walking is a good 4 u ..i used 2 walk down my street everyday then back up but i've gotten lazy lol

L4, stop using Equal asap,it's really the worst sugar substitute out there that can hurt you. Splenda is currently considered the most "healthy" of sugar substitutes and it does taste good.

i can't trust those reports cause they used 2 say that sweet n low was bad 4 u then equal came on the market ..it's just a matter of time b4 they say splenda is worse than anything. I swear someone greases those FDA pockets 2 help their products.

See, this is what I am sure will happen. I will be so competitive with all the others attending the meetings.

To have someone else do better than me will kill me. So I'll have to do it. lol

competition among women, can sometimes be a good thing! Take going to the gym. And little miss thing comes out of the locker room after her work out dressed to the 9's! and you have on your sweats...makes you more anxious to workout and dress-up after your shower!

I did the Weight Watcher's diet several years back, and successfully lost over 60 pounds. Weight Watcher's is the diet that I always recommend to everybody, because they teach you how to eat something from every food group. Unlike the Atkin's Diet, where you eliminate bread entirely. rolleyes Good luck on your weight loss, you can do it!!
