My doctor has been on my ass about it because Diabetes runs on both sides of my family. I'm getting really worried about it, so I need to watch what I'm eating and also get up and move.

I only drink milk, water, and occasionally I'll have some wine or a beer. My main problem is exercise. I'm super lazy about it. I have a treadmill, but I get so bored walking on it. I think I may start walking and/or jogging at a park near my house. That should be more fun and I'll probably buy some dumbbells.

Hmmm . . . I think I'll try that. I'd walk fast for 3 minutes and run for 30 seconds. It doesn't sound like much, but it worked.

Good luck Erin.
What exercise are you doing? I'm underweight by quite a bit, but I'm actually also trying to lose weight too. I've stopped drinking alcohol and I'm hoping to lose this beer belly. I'm exercising and not eating a lot of fat foods and I actually don't mind if I become even more underweight in the short term as I can see my body is becoming a little more toned at the moment. I want to be back to the 7% body fat I had in my teens. I'll start eating pasta and stuff once my belly is down a bit and I'm really going strong with the exercise.

My headaches and laziness aren't good when it comes to working out. Loosing weight is a big struggle for me as well so I can relate to what you are all saying on here Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

JustErin said: hokie1 said: My mom lost 7 pounds in the first week. Are you able to exercise? I hate doing it, but I think once you hit your thirties you are in for a fight. I am horrible at getting motivated but once I start I am fine and even enjoy it cuz of the high you get after you finish a hard workout. I've basically got a little gym set up here in my spare room so there is no excuse to not be able to work out. I honestly have no idea why I can't get this weight problem under control. It makes me miserable. I know what I need to do to get rid of it, I am not a lazy person...and yet, I do nothing. I hear you on the laziness thing. For years I would be disappointed w/ my body image yet do nothing about it. I honestly think the only thing that pushed me into my current routine is that I couldn't hide it anymore - I was really out of proportion & just SICK OF IT & I can't even really talk because this is the first time in my LIFE that I've ever worked out steadily & it's only been since around March. But I'm keeping at it & some weeks are better than others, you just have to keep your goal in mind. If WW interests you I say go for it, knowing that when you're done with it you'll have to maintain healthier eating habits PERIOD. Hopefully it'll get you to that point where you won't tolerate the bad stuff easily & stay more on point - the way we think about food is half the battle. Maybe it all goes hand in hand - the better we eat, the better we feel, the more we're invested in our bodies. Plus once you start paying for something you really wanna see results from it The risk of fucking up during WW might be just the motivation you need to turn the eating thing around So gather up your good music, do as much cardio as you can, eat & snack healthy, make diet tea/juice/soda your friend (if needed, I sure can't drink water all the damn time) I wish you (& the rest of us, lol) the best! & I forgot to say on that car thread that your kid is so damn cute!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
One more thing I forgot to add: it doesn't work for everyone but I find that it's working for me. Once I got started working out & couldn't keep track of what my progress REALLY was - I looked & felt better but I wanted the numbers. So I weigh myself once a week & track it, see what I've gained or lost from week to week in weight & body fat. I find that it keeps me honest about my food. I know when I've fucked up & only worked out once that week, but it's easy to make excuses for succumbing to a burger craving or allowing myself a slice of somebody's birthday cake @ work I see it in the numbers & I know that yea, I can eat that shit but it's GONNA show up! So weighing in works for me... which, I guess is a core part of the WW plan so you'll probably be doing that anyway huh? I'm a dork
I'm doing it the other way around - making working out part of my routine while making permanent changes in my eating habits. Since I'm not "dieting" I have to allow myself @ times just to keep from going nuts (it's a life change!), so it just keeps me from getting carried away w/ what I allow . [Edited 8/27/07 2:47am]

Buy a fast rope (a skipping rope usually made of a rubber flex) and try to skip for 5 minutes straight. Alternate your skipping patterns.. i.e. jumping both feet at a time... bringing each knee upto your chest at a time... or twisting your hips as you skip. There are a million ways. 10 minutes skipping is equivelant to 30mins jogging.. so imagine what shape you'd be in if you could skip for 15 minute? Thats what you should aim for - 15mins. If your fitness is around average you should be able to do that in a month if you skip 5 times a week. OR alternate it with jogging. Buy an MP3 player and just hit the road (great for the mind)
Do crunches.. there are several out there. Go on youtube or something similar and you will find professional instrutors demonstrating how to perform a 'crunch' correctly. Look for a few different techniques to work the various parts of the abdomen. a crunch will work the upper and mid abs.. an exercise which involves you lying down and lifting your legs will work the lower abs. Again pick around 3 ab exercises and try and do 5 of each after your skipping to all reading this - find out about a technique called 'the plank'. if you do cardio (thus low body fat) and really wanna tone your abs you really should try this exercise Press-ups - nothing major here just a few light reps of female press-ups will tone your arms (particularly the under arm (tricep) which often bothers women). THE FAT BURNER - if you want a real killer of an exercise learn to do an exercise called a 'burpee'. should be on your tube somewhere i imagine. You could do these at intervals as u jog. If you stuck to this you would see a CRAZY difference in your body and self esteem towards your appearance within a month. I guarantee you - OR YOUR MONEY BACK!!! if you wanna discuss it at any greater depth of are interested in putting together a exercise regime then just give us an org note. would be happy to help u out. JUST DONT JOIN WEIGHT WATCHERS!!!!! i know who a girl who weighs 18stone who has attended weightwatchers for over 2yrs, She is still 18stone. Did you read anything she wrote about motivation? Everyone has their opinions, but I think it could be a good option if she feels it will motivate her - some of us need more than just exercise & the one bad meal thing she's doing now definitely needs to change. How does "just exercise" help that? & how does it motivate?

How does "just exercise" help that? & how does it motivate? Hi Csq. I did indeed read it. I find places like that to be stiffling and anything but motivational. The hardest thing to do is self motivate but it is the truest form of motivation. If she can do that then there is no stopping you. I indeed agree that its each to their own in regard to what works for somebody. A question needs to be asked though.. Why do people who join weightwatchers never leave? they are just a global company that prey on those with the lowest self esteem. Surely that time could be better spent... Even if it means getting a jogging partner. [Edited 8/27/07 4:35am]
