I'm in the market for a new laptop

I need you guys' help. I don't have a lot of requirements for one but I can afford to get one with all the bells and whistles if I choose. One friend suggests that I just get a Dell and another suggests I get the new iMac, which I'm digging because of the no virus thing and plus, it just looks cool as hell.

Anyone got a system they love? My current laptop has a 120 gig hard drive, DVD burner, 17 inch screen but dumping music on it to load my iPod causes problems. I can only load about four CDs at a time before it starts freezing up for some reason.

Never get Dell, they suck. If you want great value and build get HP over Dell any day. They also look far sexier. Their Pavillion range rocks.

After that it's Sony Vaios, but you'll pay out the ears for something with worse specs. They will look almost as sexy as Macs though, and they really are good.

Then I'd go for a Macbook (either standard or pro, depending on what you need) - they're so sexy and OS X isn't that hard to use at all. I'll be getting a full-spec black Macbook for university.

My pretty pink Dell has been delayed yet again. I initially ordered it at the beginning of July. It has been delayed several times and now I'm wondering if I'll ever get it.

Everyone I know who has a dell has had nothing but great experiences, both hardware and service-wise, so I'm still holding out...

I'm going to go with Mac (will be my first time ever).

But I would hold off until January when the "refresh" the product line.

Personally, if you have to have one now, I love the crap out of the macbook , but it has an integreated soundcard/videocard so if you want real power, get the macbook pro (Which is out of my price range).

As far as PC laptops go, some of the new aluminum cases used by several of the vendors look decent, and you get ALOT of bells and whistles. Laptops have really dropped in price.

I've bought 2 Dell laptops, the first about 5 years ago and the second last year. Zero issues. Also, on the last one I bought an extended warranty for up to 5 years and they'll actually come out to the house and fix it, around $400 extra.

I love Macs but they're just too damn expensive for a tricked out one.

I need a really cheap one. Where's the best place to get a cheap laptop that doesn't take 50 years to do stuff?

Ivy, I'm a total MacChick, so I'd push the new iMac or MacBook. One thing to think about is that Leopard (the new OS X) is scheduled to come out in October. You'll either want to wait for it or ask if they'll include the upgrade in your purchase and send it when it become available. (The latter is what they did for me when I got my iBook a couple years ago.)

This new Leopard feature makes me wet...

They gave me a new date today of 9/5. I'm hoping since I ordered practically 2 months ago, I'm at the head of the queue. lol
