Stitches

Clumsy me, today I dropped a bottle of pop on the floor and somehow a shard of glass cut my knee open. Since the wound was so inconveniently placed it was hard to close it up and the blood just kept flowing. Eventually I got it to stop, and figured I'd just tape it up but when I couldn't find any surgical tape I decided to go to the local doctor's office. The doc stitched me up without anaesthesia since it was a choice between, as he put it, "having the needle prick me a couple of times and be done, or having the syringe prick me a couple of times and end up with a numb, swollen knee". Anyways, no biggie, it's just annoying to have to mind that area for the next week or so.

The only other time I've had stitches was when I had a few skin patches removed around suspect moles. That was no fun.

What about you guys? Any stories about wounds that needed stitches? How many times have you had it done?

.

Oh yes in my neck too.. and in my finger.. I think thats all.. but when I got the stitches in my head, cos I fell over, I asked them to put some extra ones in for good luck.. The nurse just laughed and then she did, cos I bribed her with my Twix lol

I've had stitches four times.

When I was four, I cut my arm on a piece of broken mirror.

At 12, being a tomboy, I flipped over a pole and hit my head on the sidewalk.

And I've had two C-sections: one with stitches and the other with staples.

I've had lots of stitches in my day. Two different surgeries. I have a nice big scar almost from hip to hip that required staples actually, so not quite stitches. That was sucky. Painful.....

The other time was a laparoscopy and the stitches were minimal.

OUCH! Sorry about your knee! hug

I have had stitches once in my life. I was 4 yrs old, was playing with the back door, opening and closing it, saying Hi to my Daddy as he worked in the yard. Well the glass from the door came down, and nearly cut off my left pinky. I was left with half my pinky hanging. The Dr's were able to save my finger, and now I have this interesting scar. confused

Oh that's not fair! Your seven years of bad luck from having broken the mirror should have just run out by the time you hit your head. comfort

I've only have only had stitches once. When I was 6, I was running in my house and I slipped and knocked my head into the corner of a table. It was on the side of my head, right next to my right eye. confused

The other time was a laparoscopy and the stitches were minimal.

Well the first was from a hysterectomy. I've had lots of health problems and was necessary at a young age.

A laparoscopy is a minimally invasive exploratory surgery. They make a tiny incision in your belly button and insert a long tube with a camera on the end so they can look in your abdominal area.

Damn! Sorry to hear that. I guess they sedated you completely when they did that procedure? omfg

As for being an insurance nightmare, did you actually get paid even though you weren't wearing a seat belt?

I think part of why I like it is that it reminds me of the fountain pop with a slice of lemon that you get when you order coke in a bar. It's always very refreshing to drink that when you've been dancing.

Before I was five years old, I had had stitches 13 times. 11 of those accidents happened within a three month time frame.

It got to the point where the doctor said: "Since I'm going to give you stitches today, I might as well get those from last week out!"

I was climbing street lights at my neighbors house and hanging from the top with one hand at the age of 4.

It stopped when I got glasses at the age of five. I still think it didn't stop because I could see better (although I did), but because I had to be very careful not to break my pair of glasses.

My mom was giving me a bath and was returning the shower head thingy to it's holder. I was looking up watching her do it. It didn't slip in porperly and fell down onto my eye. My mom said that the bath water turned red immediately.

The second time I was living with my brother and was angry that he had his gf over yet again and they were leaving a mess everywhere. So I did the dishes angry. I stuck my hand in a glass to wash the inside of it and just as I twisted my hand inside of it it broke and ripped open my hand. It was brutal.

Lesson learned - don't do the dishes angry.

To this day I still can't stick my hand inside a glass to clean it.
