This has to be one of my all time favorite British comedies ever! John Cleese is just to funny! I remember watching this show when I was young and I cannot stop laughing. Just Hilarious!

I was watching some episodes the other day. An absolute joy to watch. One of the best British comedies ever. And I fancy Polly.

Stunning, as soon as they were on DVD they were in the collection. Classic.

Personal faves are the episode where Basil beats the shit out of his car or when he reaches around the door to turn the light on and gropes Polly.
Andrew Sachs was genius too.

i loved that show as a kid! i haven't seen it in ages, though.

Many shows are not THAT good immediately. Most sitcoms need finetuning (see stuff like Rosanne), then keep going where they should have stopped.

Even classic stuff, like The Muppet Show, took some seasons to finetune. Miss Piggy just came to life by accident, for instance. Different medium, I admit, but still.

It just shows that the amazing writing skills of Cleese and Booth; they had EVERYTHING down to a science. Perfect.

Mrs. Wilson: He means the *drill* hasn't started yet.
Mr. Sharp: What drill? We didn't hear a drill.
Basil Fawlty: [trying to explain] No, no no no, look, look - that was the burglar alarm.
Major Gowen: See!
Mrs. Wilson: The burglar alarm?
Basil Fawlty: Yes!
Mrs. Wilson: Are there burglars?
Major Gowen: Evidently!
Basil Fawlty: [increasingly annoyed] No! Look, what's the matter with you all? It's perfectly simple: we have the fire drill when I ring the fire bell- That wasn't the fire bell!
Mr. Sharp: Well, how are we supposed to know that wasn't the fire bell?
Basil Fawlty: Because, it doesn't sound like the fire bell.
All guests at once: It did.
Basil Fawlty: It didn't!

Classic scene during 'The Psychiatrists' where Basil spies on Mr Johnson. He runs into the store cupboard when he here's people coming up the stairs. He thinks its Mr Johnson but its the psychiatrists. Basil comes out with a broom and declares 'the game's up!'. Trying to save face he says to the psychiatrists that game pie is stuck up on the roof and he's trying to get it out!
