Calligraphy

The following would immediately and deeply resonate deeply with my 20-year-old self, with one glimpse at me:

"You prideful clod! Don't let her get away!"
"Go on to grad school!"
"Invest heavily in Rogaine!"

Wow. That's such a good question that I am scared to answer!

But, as a start, I'd wonder why I am still exactly the same. I'd wonder why I have procrastinated so much and have not changed at all, in any way.

20 year old me would be very proud of the almost 40 year old me. She'd be proud I'm still here, be proud that I went back to school, be proud of the progress I've made in raising my three children and be proud that love is so much more important to me than sex. I have the job I always wanted and make 20 grand more a year than I was expecting to at this age and I'll be in six figures in two years.

I am one bad bitch. cool

I am exactly 30.

And I am noticing something interesting about this question. It seems like people who answer the question really look inward and think about themselves, which is not a bad thing. But I don't think people care much about other people's answers. That's not a bad thing, but it goes to show you human nature is rather self-centered. I think people worry about other people's situations mainly to compare it to their own. Human nature??

I look at other people's answers and get a little jealous and competitive. I don't want to hear about other people making 6 figures. I start to get a little sad and wonder where I went wrong. But then when I say that, I can only wonder if anyone else really cares. Human nature, I guess.

Well, sometimes you have to get used to the fact that sometimes no one will care about you but you. It took me 20 years to go back to school. I procrastinated and procrastinated. If I were exactly 30, I would be looking back with regret but since I am a different person now, I see every day as a new chance to accomplish something, however small.

Who you are ten minutes or ten years from now depends on you.

I'm not over 30 but I should imagine I'll look back and be regretful but really on reflection I'd have a lot to admire about myself.

20 y.o. me would look @ 40 y.o. me and say...

"WTF are we doing in the Army again?" Then he would see that I'm in position to get selected for another promotion, putting me one rank from the top of the enlisted heap, and he'd say "you go, you badassreneGade"....

...then he'd see that I have kids almost grown, and I'm taking my life to a different level and place and he'd be proud....

...of course, he'd love the fact that we still have enough hair on our head for gel...and that we still look good....that we've picked up weight in the right places....still turnin' heads....nod

all in all, he'd give me a big thumbs up!.....

20 year old me was engaged to my husband of now 12 years - she would take one look and go "OMG is THAT what marriage does to your figure!"

eek

But then she'd see my 2 gorgeous girls and fall instantly in love with them and totally forgive me for having a baby belly!

...and once she's heard how 12 years of working hard at a marriage has gone she'd give me a pat on the back, be pleased that we stuck it out and ask for any tips to make her life easier!

And then I'd boast that I still get asked for ID at the pub all the time - bearing in mind I'm English and you can drink at 18 that is pretty damn good!
