When did you start feeling old?

Not necessarily "old", but maybe when it suddenly dawned on you that you're out of touch with the younger generation?

I'm only 25 and it's just started happening where I'm walking down the street and have absolutely no connection with the teenagers I'm passing - their fashions, music, conversations and lingo. Everything. And what's more is that I'm totally comfortable with it and am quite happy to be past caring smile

So, when did it start happening to you, or hasn't it happened yet!?

I feel it when I take my first couple of steps after a long sit-down...
I swear it takes me two steps to get right...before that, I look like
an 80 yr old man walking. no no no!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I started to feel a bit "older" at 45. Other than that I feel 37... lol

the fact that I like the artists that inspired today's artist, and people my age and younger will barely give them a second look or judge them by their current material, which isn't as great as their older material.

When we saw Prince at the weekend we went outside to a little diner to get a coffee afterwards and some 20 year old served us and started ranting on about Justin Timberlake being better. We felt nothing but pity! 5 years difference in age but it seemed like a whole world between us.

When the instant messaging thing became big and there were all these acronyms that they talk to each other with. When I first started posting here I could hardly understand what people were saying half the time.

Now, I'm like ROFLMAO all the time. OMG!!! lol

Oh yes, MySpace and Facebook etc. is one of the main ones in the last year or two. I don't see the appeal at all, letalone actually having an addiction to it. How? It's one page. It's boring.

It scared me because a lot of my family members have a full head of white hair by the time they're thirty. Luckily, that has been the only one that I have found.

I understand how you feel, the first time I found one I about died! I was probably 24! But thank goodness since then, not to many more! giggle So...hopefully you will break the trend of graying early! nod

wtf? you can't be serious! All I could say is, thank god I was raised on music for as long as I could remember, or else I would have been into boybands, britney and justin, had I not been into the jacksons, madonna and prince and countless others from a very early age. Because I knew who came first, I knew they were all being ripoffs and I found myself thinking "this sounds like a prince song" "this looks like a janet jackson video" "madonna wore that" type stuff

I am 48. For some reason, my age never sounded old until I hit 47.

Inside, I don't feel old at all. Music keeps me young. Hearing any good music makes me dance, and that makes me feel young. I will admit though, that I don't dance nearly as good as I used to. I'm getting dangerously close to Elaine Benes-ville.

I know I rock harder than my kids, so that makes me feel young, too.

Also, my wife is a babe and looks better than ever. There is no doubt she'll age better than me.

My body still looks young, so that helps. It doesn't move or bend like it used to, but I still have a great butt, a six-pack, and my pecs don't sag. So that's good. It's going to be a bummer when my body changes. For some reason, I don't think I'll ever lose my derierre. But I can see that one day the rest of my body will sag, no matter how many weights I lift, so I'm enjoying it while I can.

I don't care what color my hair is as long as I still have it. So far, it's all there and very thick. My dad had great hair and I don't buy into this "mother's brothers" BS about hair. At any rate, my mother had one brother with phenomenal hair and one who is bald, so go figure. The only bummer is that while it's thick, my hair will never grow very long. I'd love to have hair down to my shoulders, but genetics and workplace realities won't ever let that happen.

I feel sorry for today's kids because for that last 15 years or so, pop/rock/soul/funk has been almost completely crap, IMHO. Especially rock.

And, of course, rap/hip-hop is one of the signs of the apocolypse. How that music has survived is a mystery to me.

On the other hand, I am pissed at everyone under 40 because they are so bad at making good music. Especially the rockers, if you can call them that. I place a pox on the guy that figured out if you dropped the high E string to a D, you could play all the chords with one finger.

Therein lies the death of the riff...

if people in their late 20's or early 30's like today's mess, I don't feel like respecting them if it's not at least intellectual. I mean, they've been around longer than me, I'm sure they would remember experiencing the 80's to begin with, if I could at the age of 24, why not them?

I feel old, I look and behave fairly young for my age. I think the older you get, the signs of getting old change. I remember feeling old when all of my friends were over the age of 21. Then when I couldn't go out 4-5 days a week and still maintain my health and energy. Then when my friends started buying houses and getting married. Then when they started having babies. And I've done none of those things. lol

That's a good question. No doubt, younger generations want to do things better than the generation before them. It's just mind-boggling how the last couple generations have failed so miserably (IMHO) when it comes to music. ESPECIALLY rock music.

I'm going to go see Blue Oyster Cult Friday night. I consider them a second-tier band, but they're still better rockers than just about anyone whose come out in the last decade or so, IMHO.

You are not as smart, beautiful, sexy, funny, loving, wise or creative as you will be tomorrow. And the day after tomorrow will be even better. You're still going up and will be for decades to come.

Anxiety

i don't feel like i'm so much out of touch with the younger generation than i feel like the younger generation is out of touch with ME. lol

there's so much in youth culture today that's boring and bland and insulting and marketed, and i know i enjoyed just as much junk culture when i was a young'un, but i also had alternatives - risky, wild, (truly) alternative, dangerous stuff that made my parents nervous. where's that stuff today? i wanna hear about some bigshot pop star that's making people my age lock their doors, dammit. is pete wentz supposed to scare me??? falloff

GET WITH IT, YA BORING WHIPPERSNAPPERS!!!! evillol
