Driving I've realized that I simply love driving a car, or any vehicle for that matter. There's something so liberating and relaxing about being on the way to somewhere, and to have the freedom of choosing which roads to take, where to stop on the way etc.
My favourite type of driving is road trips with plenty of time at my disposal. Daytime driving has its charms since you can see things on the way, while nighttime driving is really cozy and surreal. I love listening to music and following endless roads that slither their way through the terrain, and to sometimes pass huge trucks. They're like big beasts of the night as they slowly but steadily push forward with a gentle humming sound. City traffic is not fun if it's not moving forward at all or if it's really slow, but when it's flowing nicely it can be like a ballet where all the dancers know their place and move smoothly into and out of different formations. Then there's the fun of offroad driving, the thrill of nailing the gas pedal to the floor when you've got a nice straight and nobody around, the dream-like feel of driving through long pipe-like tunnels... I love all of it. Do you like driving, and if so - what's your favourite type of driving?

Ex-Moderator | I can enjoy a good road trip for all the reasons you mentioned but in general I hate driving. I much prefer public transportation if it's readily available and reliable. If it's not, then I prefer to be a passenger when at all possible.
Actually, I would always rather be the passenger. So never mind. |

Lessons coming soon, cant wait! I'm taking the test on September 3rd! I'm going to fail - I'm not ready yet. I did the theory test with no revision and passed by exactly 1 mark.

Drive an 80-mile roundtrip commute five days a week for 11 years and you'll be over it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Oh, I hate public transportation. It's stressful and crowded and you have to put up with body odours and cell phones going off and screaming kids etc. I'd rather be stuck in a traffic jam any day. At least then I would have my own private space. It's just too bad it's so expensive to own a car. If it's not, then I prefer to be a passenger when at all possible.
Actually, I would always rather be the passenger. So never mind. I'll be waiting for you here while you do your shopping Ms Mipples.

My husband, myself and my girls..love to go on what we call our sunday drives. After breakfast, we take a drive with no destination in mind. The excitement is always in where will we end up. We may end up in the next city..doing some shopping, or on the beach for a nice walk. My favorite is when we drive into the country, and all you see around you is the open road and endless possibilities.

Exactly! You're lucky that your spouse feels the same way. Some people get stressed out if they don't have a time plan and a clear set destination.

Driving here in the UK is a total freakish nightmare!!
In fact u dont drive, u just creep along!! its stop, start, stop, start, stop, start all the time in most areas!! Theres no such thing as rush hour traffic here cos ALL DAY is the rush hour regarding the traffic!!! U have 2 have eyes in the back of your ass here 2 drive as well as nerves of steel 2 cope with peoples pig-headed attitudes!! Also down virtually every road, even the ones that dont need them, there are speed cameras zapping your ass, even when u arent speeding, cos they are a very good money making machine for the government!! And dont get me started on the parking!! I detest with a vengance having 2 pay 2 park!! yet, when I go 2 the USA, its a completely different story entirely!! I love driving in the USA and I can really relate 2 u, Retina, regarding driving there!! U have the open road and even on Interstates its a total breeze driving!! I love driving both day and night in cities in the USA!! I also relish parking in the USA, cos u dont have 2 pay or even if u do pay 2 park its only a small amount(i.e 25c for 2 hours), compared 2 here in the UK!! Also drivers in the USA are far more courteous and well mannered compared 2 here!! Also the cars themselves see 2 b a lot different in the USA, than here!! More easier 2 drive in lots of ways!! next year, I would have passed my test for 30 years and to b honest my driving experiences have been far better in the USA!!

growing up in the country driving was a big thing.
the big stress was making sure you would pass your test on the first try because everyone else did and you drove as soon as you could... as often as you could! i like driving... 2 hours is no big deal. but i like flying even more lmao... today instead of 8 hours on the road... 50 minutes in the air! not the environmentally responsible answer though lol i would take you for a nice scenic drive retina

Theres no such thing as rush hour traffic here cos ALL DAY is the rush hour regarding the traffic!!! Don't go to Switzerland then. It's even worse there since virtually all available space has been exploited and lots of people have cars. Also down virtually every road, even the ones that dont need them, there are speed cameras zapping your ass, even when u arent speeding, cos they are a very good money making machine for the government!!
I hate those! Bloody tools of a big brother society. And dont get me started on the parking!! I detest with a vengance having 2 pay 2 park!!
Yeah, that sucks. At least when you're not in bigger cities there's usually plenty of free parking. yet, when I go 2 the USA, its a completely different story entirely!! I love driving in the USA and I can really relate 2 u, Retina, regarding driving there!! U have the open road and even on Interstates its a total breeze driving!! Canada is even better. It's the ultimate country if you love road trips. Beautiful nature and wonderful long and winding roads, free parking in many places etc. Also drivers in the USA are far more courteous and well mannered compared 2 here!!
Well, they're either very polite or they pull up a gun and shoot you. Not much in between. Also the cars themselves see 2 b a lot different in the USA, than here!! More easier 2 drive in lots of ways!!
They're bigger and more comfy, that's for sure. But they're not as reliable unfortunately.

I know what you're saying but I find it hard to compare the two. They're just completely different experiences. 8 hours on the road is indeed a long time if you're in a hurry but you get to see and experience so much more. Flying has the benefit of speed (although checking in and out takes a long time...) and comfort. i would take you for a nice scenic drive retina
