YOUR PARENTS "STUFF" - or old stuff ... or ...

anyone here dealing with - parents that collect ALOT OF STUFF >.. i am tempted to write shit ... but ... some of it is worth "something" ... i am not talking about jewells and treasures ... just stuff .... mainly ... and it isnt really JUNK ... altho ... i have to say ... some of it is ... to me ... JUNK ...

i spent a few hours yesterday goin thru my mom's attic. My dad (when he was alive, etc) would throw CRAP up there ... again - i have to emphasize- some of it is CRAP ... (like empty boxes i guess he figured he would use some day ... however NOW - years later ... are just fire hazards ) but most of the stuff is more or less stuff you DO NOT really wanna get rid of .... like old momentos ... or family pictures ... model trains ... lots of variety of stuff ... .

i spent a few hours ... threw away a bunch of things ... but still ... i feel like i did maybe ... and this is a guess ... maybe 1/100th of the crap up there !!!!

i like to look thru the old stuff ... my grandfather did alot of historical stuff ... kept nice notes ... etc ... alot of family -heirlooms with great stories ... UNFORTUNATELY ... my father didnt follow that up .. and do the stuff ... so i have alot of pictures and stuff I realy have little idea who the people are ... lol

but it is a challenge ... and i imagine you people .. some of you ... have some similar ... funny stories !

i have a sis in law who constantly says her grandmother hoards crap ... old newspapers, etc ... i cannot imagine ...

When my parents die, we will have to get a dumpster or two to get rid of all the "stuff" in their house. I'm hoping I can convince them to move before then, actually.

I hate to say this...but I am a person like that. I keep everything in tubs that mean something to me. I have every school paper from all of my kids. Little notes they wrote me, pictures they made me. I have every bday card from the last 15 yrs.

You see..my parents never kept anything of mine as I was growing up, so it's very hard for me to toss things now. I feel sorry for my kids when I pass on...hell just my Prince collection is going to be a hassle for them. lol

yeah i've got "stuff" to deal with
my parents lived through the thirties so were taught well.
they moved into my grandparent's house when i was 3
and inherited a lifetime of their "stuff"
now my uncle has left three houses worth of "stuff" to go through.
my own basement is also terrible as i am pretty damn sentimental too.

you realize quickly that beyond sentiment it is all material
and in the end you can't take it with you confused

Actually, I hardly ever drink. Give me some LiveWire Mountain Dew or Cherry Coke and I'm a happy guy. smile
