What's new?

Tell us something new that you're getting into for the first time. It can be anything- a musical artist, author, book, television series, radio program, whatever. It doesn't even have to be media really. If you're learning a new skill or perfecting an old one, tell us what it is.

I'll go first-

I'm really really getting into the band The Smiths. I've always been interested in them and had a few of their cd's but now I'm addicted. I have to have all of their stuff now. I love Morrissey's flowery but literate writing style and their place in the history of indie/alternative rock. And his vocal style is so fucking unique. There are several other bands that fit in with them that I've always been into, so it surprises me that it took me this long to fully appreciate them.

Also, I've been working on certain elements to my singing. I'm finally discovering the full range of what I can do with it and this has me very excited. yay! I can't wait to put what I've learned to use.

So what's new with you?

Many things... one being that I am looking for a job for the first time in about six years. Unfortunately for me, it will end up with my being a waitress since so much time has passed. *sigh*

As of right now, I'm really into litigation.

A bunch of junk came for my court case and it gives me hope that I can wiggle out of this and the deadbeat will get the chair.

Well, not the chair, but... we can hope.

lol

prediction: 2the9s, bkw, and Battier will hijack this thread to talk about some inane shit or other. place your bets now lol

I hear ya. It's been almost 3 years since I've had a job and I know it's going to be a painful process to enter into that world again. I don't look forward to it at all.

I'm not all that crazy about it either, but it will be done. The trouble is finding something that pays well with being out of work for so long. Tips are good I guess... I'll just make all of my friends come to the joint and I'll wait on them and make them pay me well... until I find something else. smile

How close are you to downtown Detroit? I always thought that the Summit in the Renaissance Center would be a good place to work. You get the great view, a rotating restaurant overlooking the river and probably some kick-ass tips. The prices are very high there so you're sure to take home the loot every night. Just a thought. smile

The Summit would be great! But, I'm in Waterford and that would be too far of a drive for me. Unfortunately...

Moonbeam

Here are some artists that I am getting into for the first time, and the song that put me over the edge:

The Smiths- Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me
Human League- All I Ever Wanted
Simple Minds- Cry

Any suggestions as to albums I should buy? I've got "Strangeways, Here We Come" by the Smiths but haven't listened yet. I also bought "The Very Best of Human League" and "Cry" by Simple Minds.

I am currently in the process of growing up, which sux when you are 31.
I am trying to deal with all the left over bull from yesteryear and am finding out it will never go away, just tag along and be a part of my life no matter what.
No running, no hiding.

But on the bright side; it brings out my creativity, which was dorment for some time. And with writersblock lifted I just write, write, write.
And I mumble, mumble, mumble.

"Speak up! I can't hear ya!"

I said: I started working out again, training off them lovehandles.
Lotsa energy.

Now lemme ponder if I will stay in Paris yes or no...

I just made a new friend at work! Her name is Michelle and she's a fun fun girl. Not like most of the brains here at Brown University...

What places are you considering so far? I've heard that you should avoid Olive Garden no matter what. Poor employee treatment and major turnover. You should go somewhere really upscale with expensive meals and at least 20% tips as the usual. smile

Yes Olive Garden is a horrible place to work...I have friends who worked for them and hated it. I personally have waitressed at Bennigan's one in Indiana and one in Illinois. I made more money when I worked at the one in Illinois , the one in Indiana is right next to Gary, Indiana YUCK!!!. So nothing but YUCK came in there. I do not know if there is one close to you in Detoit, but I liked working for them. Depending on the time of day you work...(I worked both days and nights)...and I never left with less then 50 or 60 dollars(lunch is slower and people bills and peoples tabs are less.) and when I worked at nights and on the weekends I never left with less then $150.00 easily. Hope this helps and good luck with job search.

Well, I was considering Peppi's out here in Waterford... you can make good money there... or Fox and Hounds in Bloomfield Hills. Peppi's only because it is closer. I will avoid Olive Garden though!

I am still trying unsuccessfully to get into the dating scene. This is the first time I've been truly alone and had such a vast variety of available people around for my... erm... use.

It's been almost two years... and adult (or at least psuedo-adult) dating sucks! It's so hard. Too many damn choices.

sigh
I mean, like, where is the sun?
