I am serious when I say that there should be no less than a life sentence for rapists. How could you purposely hurt another person like that? I cannot understand it at all.

I know. But sometimes these people have had to live fucked up lives. Who knows if they were molested by a parent or someone close to them. I think that more than half of rapists are just seriously ill. And then they get thrown in jail rather than getting treatment.

It's easy for us to say just kill them or put them in jail and throw away the key...but what they really need is HELP.

I hear where you're coming from Carrie... it is true.. many rapists have had messed up lives... and of course many have been abused themselves. and that is tragic, no doubt. sad. However, while this may sometimes explain their behaviour, it still isn't ever a justification for it is it?

NO, not at all. I just don't see them getting any help in jail. I'd like to see them locked up in a mental institution and make them talk about it everyday so they are constantly reminded of what they did and make them sorry.

Nothing can justify such a violation on someone else... At some point some form of self-responsibility has to come into play. I certainly am not for killing anyone... no matter what crimes they commit... but there does need to be a significant consequence for perpetrating such a horrific act on someone...

I agree!

Many of them truly do need help, and I am all for attempts to reform those who commit such acts... nothing wrong in trying..(even though many such attempts are unsuccessful, so many are repeat offenders even after attempts at reforming them). Either way part of any such reform should go hand in hand with taking responsibility for ones actions... and some of the sentences handed out are truly ludicrous... one has to protect future victims too... no system will ever be completely just... but you have to draw the line somewhere...

unfortunately I don't see any line being drawn anytime soon.

My father is a cop and it disgusts me how many people get away with shit because they make deals with the judges or have some kind of political tie. It also discourages him and to see people get away with it, he works so hard to catch them and then they get off so easily
