Yes, yes, but currently I think the US has proven it's fire power effectively enough through our military to be a deterrent for military strikes from other nations. I strongly support gun control. Gun control to me is like finding a way to control Internet music piracy. Sure, taking away my ability to steal mp3s online might not take away my criminal tendancy to want to pirate music. But then, I'd have to start coming the city for bootleg records stores, or find alternate means of distribution through mailing lists and clubs, etc. etc., that I just couldn't be bothered or wouldn't be as effective. I assume drive-by knifings and strangulations would be far fewer than drive-by shootings. & when people would rather send their kids to school with bullet-resistant backpacks than limit guns, something's wrong.

Sure, without a gun he was still a dangerous thug, but if he had tried to go after the officer with a knife, the morning news would have been far different.

I really don't care if you shoot animals but with this and some other things you post, you love the fact that you piss some people off and then start digging deeper like you did throughout this thread with the pictures you posted and comments you've made. It's like you're saying "fuck you" to people who are sensitive about this topic. We aren't all a bunch of hicks from rural communities. We're of all income groups, all races, all genders, all sexual preferences, multiple religions etc. I seem to be more accepting of others' lifestyles, than some here, of mine. That's fine. If I had a photo of the guys from Phoenix, who shot a javalina, I would have posted it, as it was quite an achievement. I would ask their permission to do so, 1st. (they may not want anyone to know they're hunters. but no, they were happy as clams and wouldn't mind at all....i'll never forget it.). Unfortunately, you missed the snipped posts. I know many gun owners and hunters who don't discuss the subject, for this exact reason. It's not worth the grief. [Edited 8/16/07 16:06pm]

I'm not gonna like, SHOOT anything. NEVER! But I'm gonna dress in camelflage and go out in the woods and stuff! I've hunted for years. You need to take a hunter education class, and get to the range and target practice, so you are comfortable with site alignment, using a scope, positioning, concentration, etc. I don't discuss hunting much, as it's not a popular topic. you guys KNOW I have to chime in right. My husband is a hunter, and I"m sure this was brought up cause opening day is approaching..right? any way..it's not something I could do...well, I could probably hunt turkey...but...it's certainly not my thing, but the community of hunters I know are some of the BEST people you'd ever want to know, VERY law obiding and safe as well as down to earth folk. would give the shirt off their backs for ya. "not a fan" yeah...ok

Nice rack, good body, older, with a grey tail and in charge of the others. I had a good rest, a good position, but couldn't get the cross hairs lined up. I was too excited, and will not shoot under those circumstances.(plus my hubby was nearby, and he's such an annoyance, I can't shoot with HIM around, either), They're all still out there! Safe and sound. We have high powered binoculars and glass-up deer most hunters can't find. Needless to say, I haven't shot much in a while.... [Edited 8/14/07 15:05pm] :OMG: I gotta show this post to my husband! he's gonna LOVE you "not a fan" yeah...ok

[Edited 8/16/07 16:06pm] Instead of having intelligent conversation, both sides end up stooping to the others' level. i think it's lowest-common-denominator behavior based on one's own guilt with regards to topics which have well-trod ethical arguments tied to them. instead of coming to terms with whatever the ethical conflict is, some people prefer to make a wildly grandstanding, polarizing comment, and they get the immediate gratification of coming off as "outspoken" and badass. i think it's a cop-out. it used to piss me off but now it just informs me as to what kind of people i'm communicating with, which i suppose is actually very useful at the end of the day.

I don't even approve when forest rangers do it, at least not when they claim that certain animal populations "need to be decimated" because they've "grown too large". Says who? The eco system is self-regulating. If the environment can't sustain the population then any excessive numbers will die off naturally. No need for humans to step in and play god. Pennsylvania has at LEAST 42,000 road kill deer per year.(low estimate) Is that what you're refering to??? edit corr. on stat, more than I posted [Edited 8/16/07 20:31pm]

Anyone who likes hunting, will have debate with those who are anti-gun, anti-hunting. I'm OK with reasonable discussion and I respect others' not liking what I do. It's not stooping to any low (unless it's personal attacks, that are wrong). I'd rather say what I have to say and hear opposite views. I'm not one-sided. By thinking differently, doesn't mean I do so to antagonize others. It's simply how I think.
