My hubby just LOVES hunting with me. Most men would like their wives to hunt with them. At least the ones I know. It's the wives that prefer to stay home.

I'm not gonna like, SHOOT anything. NEVER! But I'm gonna dress in camelflage and go out in the woods and stuff! I've hunted for years. You need to take a hunter education class, and get to the range and target practice, so you are comfortable with site alignment, using a scope, positioning, concentration, etc. I don't discuss hunting much, as it's not a popular topic. True story. When I was in the police academy I was totally looking through my gun site with the wrong eye. Duh, no wonder I was missing the targets. hahahaha!! It's very hard for me to close my left eye. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I shoot with a 30-06. I'm good within 300 yards, but past that, won't try. I use a range finder to obtain the distance. I don't take a shot, unless I know I'm dead on. I field dress, skin and pack out whatever I shoot.(I always have help) Because of the draught and decreased # of tags available, I haven't had much luck the past 2 years.... I don't shoot anything I'm not going to eat. Atta Girl! Last fall, there was a nice bachelor party with two decent bucks. The biggest was just under 300 yards. Nice rack, good body, older, with a grey tail and in charge of the others. I had a good rest, a good position, but couldn't get the cross hairs lined up. I was too excited, and will not shoot under those circumstances.(plus my hubby was nearby, and he's such an annoyance, I can't shoot with HIM around, either), They're all still out there! Safe and sound. We have high powered binoculars and glass-up deer most hunters can't find. Needless to say, I haven't shot much in a while.... [Edited 8/14/07 15:05pm]

Quail hunting is the worst! I use a 12 gauge over and under ultralight Berretta shotgun..
I have two limits during bird season: -Game and Fish limit of 10 birds/day -ammo limit imposed by the hubby. One day I went through two boxes of ammo, and only shot one bird. I had a sore shoulder the next day. Quail fly low, fast, and in the mesquite. Dove season is the same way. I only shot one of those last season, also. [Edited 8/14/07 15:37pm]

Me either but my ex was brought up doing it - shot his first deer at 12 yrs old. It was a family heritage thing so I always tried to respect that but I never wanted to do it myself.

I'm telling you!! This bird was on a suicide mission! There's 25 shotgun shells per box and I went through two boxes! There were plenty of birds around, I just missed them all.

I don't even approve when forest rangers do it, at least not when they claim that certain animal populations "need to be decimated" because they've "grown too large". Says who? The eco system is self-regulating. If the environment can't sustain the population then any excessive numbers will die off naturally. No need for humans to step in and play god.

When they did get one they used all of the meat. They never went out drinking or out to see who could get the most or the biggest. He tried to hunt here in Florida but got disgusted with the mentality of the hunters. He also used a riffle type gun- muzzle loader(ball & black powder- pre-1800's style) no high powered scopes or fancy rifles for him and his family. So I respected that they were really out to learn the mountains and terrain and the animals and I was also happy he was not a very good shot. lol I can respect it in some ways even though I do not agree with it.

We humans have stepped in, so I guess the eco system may not be self regulating anymore as the natural habitat doesn't exist anymore in it's original form. Yeah the kind of hunting when they just allure animals so that some rich people can easily shoot them is the very worst IMO. Not when it's continuously being disrupted by hunters and construction etc, but the minute we step back and let it run its course it finds its balance again. So it's not a matter of saying that "oh, well we've stepped in so it's fucked anyway". All we need is just to stop interferring.
