Your CD purchasing habits

What are your tendencies in relation to buying CDs? Personally, I buy in spurts. I know that I have bought 50 musical units in one day (CDs, tapes, records) before, and then gone months without buying anything. I don't think I bought anything in August, but I bought 9 CDs today! I'm a rather sporadic shopper when it comes to music.

How about you?

I ONLY buy used CDs, simply because it's so painful for me to pay upwards of 10 bucks (at the very least) for a CD when I know I could get it for 5 online.

The last CD I bought in a store was in August. It was Pete Escovedo and I couldn't find it anywhere online. The last time I bought a CD for retail price was at least 5 years ago.

I do buy in spurts though, hence the $100 I just spent a few days ago! eek
I mean, like, where is the sun?

I used to work in a record store for ten years and overdosed on hip trendy music. I used to be able to take any cd in store home for a night. Too bad I did not have an MD player then...

I can spot honest music from miles away. There ain't that many, though. So my buying habits are severely changed after I stopped working there. When I got a 25% discount it made deciding to buy easier than now.

Also; the discs in Holland and France are carteled and way too expensive. So just my faves are bought straight away, like the upcoming Family Tree release by Bjork.

I'm pretty sporadic myself.., although it depends... however 50 in one day?! wow!!

The most I bought in one day was 15...

I'm variable though... Sometimes I go from one extreme to the other... and other times I'm more consistent... it just depends... doesn't sound too structured does it?! wink

I'd say it was about 25 CDs, 15 tapes and 10 records, and most of them were used, so it wasn't TOO horrendous. I also purchased them in Canada, which made it much cheaper than usual. Still, there really isn't much justification for buying 50, is there?

I go in waves, too. I'll buy CDs every time I leave the house. 3 weeks later I realize I have a stack of 20some cds which I've barely listened to. Then, I'll make myself stop buying and listen to things..that works for 3-4 weeks and I start the cycle all over again..

import singles my friggin downfall, I can't stay away from them, and they hurt the pocketbook...

Certain artists (P, Madonna, Bjork, Charlatans) I don't wait on buying, I head to the store on the release date and that's that.

Aaliyah was for Aaron (not org Aaron, my housemate Aaron) cuz he's been kinda down lately, and I just wanted to cheer him up a bit. The person who is receiving "Prince" has already been notified, and "1999" is going to...JESSICA! All of her CDs were stolen, including Prince, so I need to help her rebuild her collection!

I tend to buy new anticipated releases and very rare things. My days of frequent shopping are over. I always have a mental wish list of stuff I want and forget half of it by the time I get to the store. I usually buy one or two things at a time or else I find myself overwhelmed by it. I end up dropping most of it and only focusing on my very favorite. The most recent cd's I've purchased are-

Fugazi- Steady Diet of Nothing
Pink- Missundaztood
Smiths- Louder Than Bombs
Mary J. Blige- Dance For Me

Last week, all I listened to in my car was "Strangeways Here We Come"...It's such a fun album to sing along with

as for "Louder Than Bombs"...well, who can live without that cd?

Moonbeam- such a dear, helping repurchase cds! That's the only thing that can be done for someone who's had them stolen. Repurchasing SUCKS!!! You're an Angel!

Thanks, sweetie! I know that I would feel SO violated if someone stole my music- that's like stealing someone's soul! Besides, I like giving away Princey- through the drive-thru with Nathan, to random people, or to friends! I've probably given away "1999" and "Lovesexy" most.

Yes Page Arizona was the coolest. We met this awesome guy at a restaurant out there and gave him The Gold Experience and Symbol tapes just cuz he was getting into Prince and didn't have them yet. And one time after a show I gave Tricky all 3 Crystal Ball discs cuz he's a huge Prince fan and didn't have those yet. I had an extra copy anyway. wink

I think we gave him another too! I love giving away "Dirty Mind" and "1999" through the drive-thru. It's such an unexpected tip! It's also so badass that people wouldn't expect it!

When my CDs were stolen, my Mom said "just be happy they didn't take big things, like your TV"
I glared at her for a sec, and she came to her senses and said "nevermind, CDs were probably the worst thing they could've stolen from you"
Duh...

PS..I just picked up the They Might Be Giants box set...wheee! They are so happy...

I have only brought 3 commercial CDs this year, and thats an all time record for me considering the shit thats out now over the past few years!!!

1) David Bowie - Heathen
2) Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
3) Peter Gabriel - Up

But every month on the last Saturday, there is a record and CD Fair, in Southampton, fairly near me and eye always make a beeline down there and all the time eye come home with LOTS of Prince goodies!! In fact I have 2 seriously budget myself for these otherwise we would have no food in the house!!! LOL

But if u look at my CD collection, u would think I had ADHD/OCD, because of what I have accumulated over the years!!!

tower records...and that is going to be hard. Plus here in
Chicago they have some other kick ass music stores. Oh yea
nathan I am going to go and check out reckless records
today after work...will let you know if I find anything.

confuse

Oh yeah I told myself that I would stay out of Tower so that
must mean I can go to the others then. woot!
