doing things that make you happy vs. things you should do

well i'm on here to vent. I started a new job in May, and everyone knows about the pressures of a new job in the corporate world. Here it is August and i've learned the basics of the job, but now we are short on staff, and now i'm doing the work of almost 2 1/2 people which is stressing the hell out of me. Mind you i still consider myself a "new" employee since i haven't learned all of the ropes of my job.

but keep in mind that i was in grad school when i started the job. After the quarter was over in June, I decided to take the summer off to concentrate on learning the tasks of my new job. So now that my job is officially stressing me out, i've been trying to clear my mind to think about what i really want out of life. Do i want to continue to be stressed by working overtime and during my free time doing things for everybody else, or do i just want to live?

I really want to just live. I took a photography class last fall, and i've been putting off (doing my photography) ever since i finished the class. It was a great stress reliever for me while i was in grad school and at my old job. I know now my family is questioning whether i will go ahead and finish grad school, but that was added stress and pressure too. I know i will finish one day, but for right now, I just want to live my life with less stress as possible. So instead of signing up for two grad classes this fall, i'm going to enroll myself into my photograhy class once again because it's one of the things that really make me happy.

This isn't really crazy is it?

I'm definitely a do what makes you feel good now kinda girl. But there are consequences to that.

I guess decide which is more important to you and stick with it, either knowing that the stress won't last forever and just driving your way through will be worth it for the payoff when you're done, or know that it's time to spend more time with yourself and realize that grad school will always be there, whenever you decide to return.

i mean grad school is important, but i feel like its something optional. Surely having a Master's Degree is important and can really payoff, but right now i feel like I can do grad school at any point in my life when I want to. It's important, and I will finish, but I feel like at the moment, my sanity is more important. And i'm young, I have plenty of time to complete it.
