Groove on: McMillan's ex writes novel of his own After one of the nastiest divorces in history, Danville author Terry McMillan and her ex-husband, Jonathan Plummer, are back in the news, with a novel written by Plummer due to hit the shelves Sept. 4. "Balancing Act: A Novel," which Plummer wrote with Karen Hunter, is described by Simon & Schuster publicist Erica Feldon as "a sexy and satisfying novel as deliciously racy as the life he lived."
Let's reflect on that racy life, shall we? McMillan, who is 23 years older than Plummer (not that there's anything wrong with that), met him in Jamaica, where they had a whirlwind courtship that served as inspiration for McMillan's 1996 best-selling novel, "How Stella Got Her Groove Back." "Stella" became a movie starring Taye Diggs and Angela Bassett. When the marriage started to tank, McMillan and Plummer appeared on "Oprah" in 2005 and Plummer claimed McMillan knew he was gay when she married him. And this past March, McMillan sued Plummer, who works in a Danville hair salon, for $40 million, claiming he tried to "humiliate and embarrass" her during their highly publicized 2005 divorce by intentionally leaking details to the media. It's a lawsuit that may have been prompted by the knowledge of Plummer's book, which features a handsome Jamaican man living an ordinary life until a powerhouse of a woman -- who owns a modeling agency -- discovers him and whisks him into her world. It helps that he has, according to the press release, "hazel green eyes offset by dark chocolate skin" as well as a "perfect body and defiant attitude." All make the woman's "palms sweat" and a relationship ensues, but wait! The young man "discovers a hidden hunger for a male model." Despite announcing that "review copies are now available," Feldon says that they are not, in fact, available just yet. Maybe in the next couple of weeks. And interviews with Plummer aren't happening yet either unless, perhaps, you have a hair appointment. http://www.mercurynews.co...ck_check=1 | |
