I mostly buy my cd's new, when they're on sale. Tower Music almost always has on sale catalogue cd's from the major labels.. most recently the Tower in DC has had WEA cd's on sale, so I've been stocking up on those- $7.99 each for stuff like The Doobie Brothers, Everything But The Girl, Chaka Khan, etc.
Tower usually has a good selection, but their prices are a little high.

Best Buy usually has the best prices for new cd's, but the selection isn't as good.

All this to say:
My "cd purchasing habits" are directly related to what cd's I find on sale. I somehow manage to have enough self control (!) to only buy about $30. worth of cd's each time I buy..
but easily..
I could buy more!
I'll see you tonight..

My bad!

I am so compulsive.

First I wanted to collect some of my favorite oldies, then I wanted to update my Beatles collection. Then I had to update Prince, then I had to update Cat Stevens, then I had to update Earth, Wind and Fire, then I had to update the Whispers, then I had to update the Isley Brothers, and on, and on!

I'd rather look for something in a store for months than look for it online, unless it's only available online or seriously OOP. I also tend to buy one disc at a time, because if I don't, I'll tend to neglect some of them and feel like I've wasted money on discs I never listen to.

Last CD I bought was Depeche Mode's Exciter, but I got it with trade credit for misc. crap discs I've picked up over the years.

These days I'm very cautious in buying new music or indeed videogames. I don't do many "impulse buys" unless there is a sale on and it is like 3 CDs for £20 or something. Generally, I only buy albums that I know I want - it's just too expensive to make hasty CD purchases these days! I tend to have a list of about 10 or 20 of my favourite bands / artists who I'll pretty much buy every new album they release, everything else is either an old album that I've been meaning to buy or a new album that I've checked out by downloading MP3s.

The biggest recent disappointment recently was Lauryn's acoustic album... because it is copy-protected you can't play it on a PC (and my PC is my hi-fi basically) so I brought that MF back pronto)

$10 for a CD ? God now I am missing life in america ! geeze we spend like eh what 23 euro on a cd here and like most people we are compulsive shoppers ... and Martijn realy cant walk past a cd shop without having to go in ... then we leave the place with 4 or 5 disks so I keep him away from the shops as much as I can ...

Aaliyah was for Aaron (not org Aaron, my housemate Aaron) cuz he's been kinda down lately, and I just wanted to cheer him up a bit. The person who is receiving "Prince" has already been notified, and "1999" is going to...JESSICA! All of her CDs were stolen, including Prince, so I need to help her rebuild her collection!

My purchasing habits tend to follow my menstrual cycle.

Once a month I get 1 or 2 cd's. I would get more if I could only afford it. sad

I thought that you'd have like 30-31 cds a month since it seems that you are always on the rag.

Yes, Carrie was the SWEETEST...months (maybe even a year) after my CDs were stolen, we were in the local used cd shop in Uptown and they had my Charlatans cd. It was a live bootleg (shh) that I picked up in Manchester and still had the 1/2 scratched off price sticker from the store I got it from, so I knew it was my cd... They were selling to for $30 or something. So Carrie grabbed it from me cos she said I shouldn't have to pay for my own CD again and she paid for it.

THEN, for my birthday this year, she remembered me whining one nite that I'd never repurchased the first Stone Roses cd. So, she got me that for my bday...

CARRIEMPLS IS A GOOD pussy!!!

My purchasing habits are like this...

I think of crap that I want and I search around and find it.

I don't really like ANY MTV or radio music, so I have to keep searching for underground stuff that I like.

What are your tendencies in relation to buying CDs? Personally, I buy in spurts. I know that I have bought 50 musical units in one day (CDs, tapes, records) before, and then gone months without buying anything. I don't think I bought anything in August, but I bought 9 CDs today! I'm a rather sporadic shopper when it comes to music.

How about you?

=== I'm like u moonbeam. i tend to buy in spurts, then i stop. i'm looking forward to princes cds, bowies, and santanas new ones...
May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love. hug kisses

Ok now to the subject here...

I'm a lot like you, I buy all at once. I usually go a month without buying anything and realise there's a CD I want and go get it. Unfortunately I don't know how to buy just that one. I come out with many CD's, games, and software. Maybe it's a good thing I stay clear of the music stores.
