The absolutely brilliant Japanese horror film entitled "Ringu" has been remade for an American release called "The Ring."

The original "Ringu" is a phenomenal piece of work in the horror genre. Hideo Nakata did a great job directing the movie and he kept a very dark, scary atmosphere throughout the whole film. He never went for the cheap startle scares that all American horror films go for. The horror in "Ringu" is a slow, building horror that avoids using loud sound effects and things jumping at the screen to provide thrills.

I really love the Japanese film and I hope that the American version does not ruin the film as usual when American companies and directors remake movies. I don't want to see any computer effects, any loud musical numbers and absolutely NO inane teen banter.

"The Ring" is being released to theaters this Friday... I will be seeing it when it opens... I hope that they did it justice.

Oh, and Naomi Watts from "Mulholland Drive" is in the movie.

I liked the idea of the movie... it would really offend most people, but I like it.

"Ringu" is not like "Begotten," as it is suggestive, rather than expressive.

I think that you will like it a lot.

I wonder if Samara (in the remake) will be as scary as Sadako?

Incidentally Ring 2 is crap but Ring 0, the prequel is almost as good as the first one.

Yeah I love the original series - great stuff! Not too sure about a remake though

Actually IceNine if you have a PS2, the spooky game "Fatal Frame" (called "Project Zero" over here reminds me of movies like Ring - nice scary atmosphere )

The American version WILL be a disaster. Don't you guys remember the remake of "Get Carter" and how bad that was? Or "Godzilla" for that matter?

Yeah... the first 10-15 minutes of it. I never did get to finish watching it. It did look good, once you get past the subtitles, which I am not too fond of - but they weren't that annoying.
