fringe festival

I just got an invitation to check out a performance tonight, so with that I'm off to an exciting evening. I love last minute plans. yay!

So do they have these all over? Or is it just a Minneapolis thing?

If so, do you go? Do you support the arts?

I found out tonight that ours is the biggest fringe festival in North America. We love our performing arts here, apparently.

That's awesome! Somehow I thought it might be something you would know about. smile

Ours spans about 10 days with 15 or so venues and there are over 100 performances. It's quite large.

And I'd love to see pics. biggrin

Tonight was a one-woman monologue by a fairly well-known local performer. She was sweet and funny and it was quite personal. Mostly funny. lol.

Yr before last I watch a gay couple sit and talk about their lives as gays

It was very personal ...much laughter and many tears too

It was moving

PS - If your daughter is interested in traveling in the future, Minnesota's is still a "true" fringe festival. Though they get almost 1000 entries and there is only room for less than 200 shows, they are picked mostly by lottery, it's not an audition process, so everyone has a shot. I think that makes it kinda neat. smile

They have them here in the UK although I never knew and still don't know what 'Fringe Festival' means. It sounds like something to do with hair which would be fitting in your case Carrie!

lol

A fringe festival is a performing arts thing. Usually plays, monologues, dance, some mixed media stuff, spoken word, etc. It's "fringe" cause it's open to all performers. Very "indie" in that sense.
