It's a nationwide epidemic. There are even parts of South and North Carolina that have become war zones. I used to spend summers down there, and the changes are alarming - watching the news down there is the same as watching the news in Newark. Guns, Gangs, Drugs, parents on drugs, irresponsible parents - it's all over. Now, I'm not afraid of much but I am freaking scared of Camden. If that makes you afraid, you should be afraid of every little town across this nation. It isn't just happening in big cities. Its a monthly and many times a bi-weekly thing where some young punk has shot and killed someone. Im scared of teenagers black or white cause I dont know what the next stupid thing is they are gonna do or whats gonna set them off. Taking lives!? I just cant believe it. WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY GETTING THESE GUNS?

Moderator | Ok so I was talking to my family about this earlier today...and the general thought was this... "who did they piss off?"
I don't know ifthis is a jersey additude thing, or maybe we have just been so desensitized by what we hear about and experience living in soprano land, but execuion style is kinda a red flag that they might have been involved in something they shouldn't have been involved in, or maybe they were mistaken for someone else. Give me shit for saying it but I don't think strict gun control would solve anything. Then bad guys would have guns and regualr people won't. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

The only solution is to raise kids the best we can and hope for the best; its a lack of morals and scruples that kill. laws and regulations can only do so much but what good are they against those who don't care? if we put more money into social work and programs to give troubled people something to fuckin do instead of billions of dollars on a war that has made very little progress then i think we'd be much better off.

So many parents are in denial about their kids. Case in point - one of the biggest trouble makers in our area was known to everyone. He was the number one discussion in many of our community meetings. Everyone who approached his mother about the problem had the same experience - she would get offended and deny that her son and daughter (another troublemaker) was anything but an angel. In this case, the father was deceased, so there didn't seem to be a strong father figure to steer this kid straight.
Suffice to say, that kid (and some of his friends) has been in and out of correction facilities on various charges (drugs, stolen cars, gun possession). He's well on his way to becoming institutionalized like so many of our young people. It just trips me out how everyone around him could see the path he was headed except the one person closest to him. It's a crying shame... My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

I keep editing my posts on this thread... ... find it hard to articulate thoughts on such heavy issues in the GD. it's just disgusting. period. . [Edited 8/8/07 0:15am]

Providing affordable housing, revamping the lousy school system, creating real jobs combined with tough law enforcement would be a start to turning areas like Newark around.

Because it didn't take place in suburbia. Since it happened in Newark, I guess the attitude is "business as usual". right, it ain't high profile

Here's an update:
Newark police seek warrant to arrest suspect in slayings by Jonathan Schuppe Wednesday August 08, 2007, 11:08 AM Newark police believe they have zeroed in on at least one suspect in Saturday's execution-style slaying of three college students, and are waiting for prosecutors to sign an arrest warrant, according to law-enforcement sources close to the investigation. The attack's lone survivor, 19-year-old Natasha Aeriel, identified the suspect in a photo array presented to her by Newark detectives Monday, according to sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity since they are not allowed to speak openly about the case. Since then, Newark police have been pressing Essex County prosecutors to sign an arrest warrant that would give them the power to locate and arrest the suspect, sources say. The prosecutors, sources said, have resisted, saying they wanted to wait until they could take a formal statement from Aeriel, who is hospitalized and under medication at times. The warrant may come as soon as today, after investigators from the prosecutor's office take a taped statement from Aeriel. The police sources expressed hope the statement would be the final piece they needed to obtain the warrant. The massacre unfolded around 11:30 Saturday night, when Aeriel, her brother and two friends drove to a playground behind Mount Vernon School in Newark's Ivy Hill section to drink, eat and listen to music, authorities said. When they arrived, there were two men at the playground already. But soon afterward, two or three additional men showed up, and the friends started to panic. They exchanged text messages on their cell phones saying they ought to leave, according to police. But before they could leave, the men approached the four friends and announced a robbery, police said. Aeriel was shot first, through the face, and left near some aluminum bleachers. The other three - her brother, Terrance Aeriel, Iofemi Hightower and Dashon Harvey - were walked to a school wall, forced to kneel and shot in the back of the head. The last three, described by family, friends and officials as model students at Delaware State University, were dead by the time police arrived in response to a 911 call. The brutality of the attacks outraged the public, some of whom blamed Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who won office last year on a pledge to cut violent crime. Booker, clearly shaken, has spent the week defending himself and urging the city to come together to help solve the crime and to heal. Behind the scenes, Newark detectives have been working around the clock to hunt the killers. Their biggest break began with a fingerprint lifted from a beer bottle found at the scene, sources said. Well just when I thought I was the only one effected by this I find it mentioned on the org. I'm from Newark and have since moved only 3 years ago...one of the main reason I left was because of the senseless shooting. It is so unfortunate that a city so large.... with unseen buried treasures in it...is so overshadowed by poor government and the media slander.
My move was purely out of fear for my son....just last summer his cousin was killed ...shot in the head....15yrs old..over complete bullshit. It affected my child tremendously. I live in South Jersey and all I see is the Philly insanity!!! When Bill Cosby spoke about how parents of the younger generation aren't teaching their children a goddamn thing he was right...do you belive this shit. Corey Booker has taken charge over a city that has many issues it's not his to own blame....but it's not big news to the country....just a couple more youths slained...oh well. There has always been off the hook shit going on in that city and many others...every state has their Newarks....however the city stigma outweighs anyone caring....except the people who know the real Newark. I was disgusted to read this on my cell phone to say the least...When I look at those pictures I see my son in their eyes...that could have been my child just as easy. Our country is so fucked up...all this death...over what...what gang your in...few dollars to support habits...power...oil....control! I have to stop now..... New Orleans is in the same boat.....I just finished watching the documentary that Spike Lee made and it broke my heart...the same kinds of senseless and random violence is killing the rebuilding there, and destroying many great cities across the country....hopefully, people will say enough is enough and let their displeasure with the whole government show in this next election.....as I grafittied on a bathroom stall "vote your conscience, not your party line"..... San Francisco has similar problems, whether the postcards say that or not. The Yay Area as a whole may have, shit, 4-6 killings in the period between Friday night and Monday morning, from San Jose to Richmond, to SF to Oakland, to Vallejo and back to Hayward. Muthafukkas is getting POPPED...It's a cross-racial problem that really is eating the nation, The Bay, up. Our pretty ass Mayor, Gavin Newsom, swore he'd fight crime in Hunter's Point and this and that, but you know, as noble as that is, I don't think politicians REALLY know what's up if the people that live there are at a loss too. Life my ass muthafuka - this is a bit'ness.
