Weird things that you tell your kids, or that your parents have told you. My kids are afraid of 'The Onion Patch'. Yanno how some parents tell their kids their going to the orpanage, and the kids get all upset? Well my kids are deathly afraid of going to the onion patch.
When they get a splinter they call it 'Walkie Ma Talkie'. Like if they're on the deck w/out their shoes on all I have to say is 'Your gonna get walkie ma talkie'. And they run and put their shoes on. When my son doesn't like when I tell him no, and says that I'm Mean. I tell him I'll call Misses Pettybone and she'll get him a new Mommy. So a lot of times if the phone rings when hes acting up he'll say fearfully "Is that Misses Pettybone?" I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure
I layed down with love and I woke up with lies Whats it all worth only the heart can measure It's not whats in the mirror but what's left inside

Ex-Moderator | You are an awesome mother!
I love this stuff. My parents never made up such stuff when I was little. It's fun. Another thing that I LOVE is that there is this tree by a lake in Minneapolis that has a little mailbox/cupboard thing in the trunk of it. If you leave a little note in there and come back a couple days later a "gnome" or fairy or whatever answers your letter or question. Anyone can leave something in there and they are always answered. No one knows who is answering them, but I absoutely LOVE it. I want to leave something in there but I never have. I should do that today maybe... |

my mother would tell us that rolos were for grownups cause she didn't want share and we believed her
http://www.candydirect.co...olobar.jpg i had a girlfriend who i hadn't seen in awhile, her mother told her that if she let a boy touch her or if she had sex her panties would catch fire and she would burn up. so once she heard her older sister in the room with a boyfriend and she heard her sister screaming, my friend got scared-she thought her sister was on fire

if my husband and I run to the store we leave my 13 year old twins home and he always tells them "dont answer the door a prisoner escaped today." and they always believe it. We dont even live near a prison. One day one of them asked why dont they build better prisons? Don't take life too seriously, noone gets out alive.

my three year old niece is in the "but why" stage. told her she couldn't sit in that spot in the car because the seatbelt was broken. "why" because it doesn't work. "why?"
so after a couple of those, my sister told a story of how one night when i wasn't looking a dragon came and sat in my car and broke the seatbelt. it was quite a long and involved story that held her close attention and seemed to satisfy her need to know about the seatbelt. imagine my chagrin a few days later overhearing her tell a bunch of other three year olds at the swimming pool all about the dragon that broke her auntie's seatbelt in her car!

Ex-Moderator | You know, thinking back I was a very cynical child. I never believed anything. Maybe that's why my parents never made up stories.
I remember being told by my aunts that I shouldn't pout and stick out my lower lip cause a birdy would come by and poop on it. That's sooooo weird!! Even then I thought it was a weird thing to tell someone. |

you guys made me remember when I lived in Hawaii Oahu to be exact as a child the adults would tell stories about the green lady and she had a dog too anyway the story was she was walking her dog and got ran over by sometype of construction vehicle and now she gets kids. Any Hawaiian orgers out there will know the full story. I was in elementary school so we are talking mid 70's but it was very popular. Don't take life too seriously, noone gets out alive.

I told my daughter I had "Mommy powers" because she would freak out when I would find out stuff...most just by accident. It worked for many years. Kept her honest.

my kids won't drink soda/pop/soft drinks cause I told them it was "spicy" and coke is ONLY for grown ups and when they ask "why is Isabella allowed to have coke then?" I shrug and say "ask her mother"

When I was in the 4th grade, my mother told me that my teacher, Mr. Deutsch, rode the bus everday from Timbuktu. When you are in the fourth grade, you're pretty excited to be in the know about these things so of course I shared this information with all my classmates. Since a few were better informed than I, I had to really insist on the verity of my claim. Such a tender age. I was pretty devastated when Mr. Deutsch intervened with the truth; even more embarrassed when I learned later on about Timbuktu.
That not being enough, my mother (punk!) told me a 'chicken & a half' (-check it, it's at the grocery store) was a genetically altered chicken that grew extra wings and legs. I did the exact same thing again, and was equally fierce in argument contesting it to be true. My mother that evening told me she was only joking. And that is how you make a very gullible child into a very skeptical one. "I got the devil in me, girl." - 'John the Baptist', Afghan Whigs
