Just sayin' disbelief

and let's not forget mullet control.

So.....considering it's a "fashion mullet", do you pronounce it all french-like as in ballet or do you stick to the american pronunciatio?

I can see that. lol And I think there's a great deal of truth to what you said.

But I also see guys who only become friends/bother getting to know women they find attractive (i.e. want to bone) more often than not...

Exactly! So truthfully most males and females fall into their basic modus operandi.... most times it does come up but if handled well often its put away with and in my experience, both sides leak it out at some vulnerable point or other and it fades to dark a day later....

Ideally, thats the way one always hopes for these kinds of things to be handled...

on the flip side, sometimes the one lets it out more as a revelation than a leak....and you're sitting there with the "whofuckedtheneighborscat" look on your face....knowing that your friendship has just been flushed down the shitter.....

It's the age old question. (Or at least since 1989 when "When Harry Met Sally" came out.)

Jess's thread (and Imago's reply) got me to thinking.

Do you believe straight men and women can truly have a platonic relationship?

Or does one always want to bone/fall in love with the other?

However, everybody is different and there is no right or wrong answer to your question simply due to fact that we're all human ( well most of us online ). Sometime Love can happen when you least expect it b/c there's no rhyme or reason to it and nature will take its course when its meant to be.

Well they CAN. But it's usually only if there's no romantic attraction there. If one person is romantically attracted to the other--even if they don't say anything--it will eventually bubble up to the surface. When it happens, there's definitely a bruised ego and some awkwardness. But sometimes you can still salvage the friendship if you can make the Person with Romantic Intent understand that you DO love them...just not in THAT way. That's what happened to me with my high school friend Hillari. But that's the exception, not the rule. I've had other friendships go up in smoke when there was a big "I love you" confession. So it's all a case-by-case basis.

Agreed and with SnakePeel too...I think it happens more when people who are friends are already attracted to each other on the onset of the friendship in some way….then yes, it will develop into something else just as it would with any other person they’re attracted to. It’s definitely probable to happen when one has a friend that is everything or have most qualities they’re already attracted to or what have you in a person. What happens or how it plays out after that depends on the persons involved, their level of honesty with themselves, their friend, and many other things. It’s not complicated but then it’s not simple either nothing about human attraction, emotion or love ever is.

The sad thing and down side is when you lose a true friend and friendship which in itself is hard to find... because they love you or you love them or it’s become more for the other and not both. It’s sorta crazy if you really look at it because that’s what everyone wants or is looking for…a love or to love someone who is also their friend...it's crazy I tell ya twocents

Wow, this is a long thread and I can't be bothered to read it all, but I'll give my two cents anyway.

In my personal experience there is only one female friend where there is absolutely no romantic/sexual tension whatsoever and that is a girl I've practically grown up with. Our parents are long-time friends and since we're almost the same age we've basically known each other our whole lives and regard each other as a bonus sibling or at least a friend so old that nothing even slightly superficial matters anymore.

I guess our friendship is proof that it's possible to "just be friends", but it's also pretty amazing that out of all the friendships I've had and still have with females, it is the only one completely without romantic/sexual tension. In all the others, even if there is just a slight hint of it, there has still been a spark there. Usually it's not something that we need to act upon (although at other times it is...) but it's there nonetheless and I'm sure that on some subconscious level it is affecting the way we relate to each other.
