ANYONE WATCH 'THE WIRE' ?

I've heard rave reviews about this hard hitting television drama and what get some opinions before I go out and buy some DVDs.

Some reviews claim the complexities and intricacies of the show makes The Sopranos look like The Flintstones. lol eek

Anyone here seen it and have an opinion? Muchas gracias.

I watched the first 3 seasons then I moved and I do not have HBO and I never think to rent the series. I really enjoyed it nod
This man is one of my fave actors: Dominic West

I wish he could speak with his real voice but I realize that he would sound silly with his English accent in Baltimore. I love his character on the show.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Best Buy recently dropped the prices for seasons 1-3 to about $55 each, way down from the $89-$100 they were going for. Amazon usually has great prices in the used/very good section--i recently got seas. 1 for $25, 2&3 for about $40 each, all virtually brand new. also look up the hardback book the wire, available for about $5.00

Best show I've ever seen, bar none. The Sopranos and Wiseguy are among my favorites, but The Wire goes one step further in its excellence. The fact that the fourth season - it's best - didn't get nominated for an Emmy is nothing short of a travesty. That's why you can't really take awards shows seriously or you'd be like this wall at some of the choices.

What's eerie is how everything going on in the fourth season - a new mayor, corruption at City Hall, escalating murder rate - was taking place at the same time in my hometown...

Absolutely one of the best shows on cable. Dominic is awesome. I love Sonja Sohn (Kima) too. I watched another show called The Corner, based on a true story, and directed by Charles Dutton. Some of the same actors play in both. Clarke Peters plays a detective in The Wire and a crackhead in The Corner. Wood Harris as Avon Barksdale is great. (He also played Jimi Hendrix)

An interesting story from both of these shows is that the real people..."Fran" from "The Corner," and the man who "Omar" from "The Wire" was based on, are getting married.

Definitely buy it. nod

Great read! I always wondered who Omar Little was based on.

Get it. It's great.
I recently gave the DVD series to my brother as a gift.

Last year I met Idris Elba (Russell "Stringer" Bell) at a trade show.
He's an actor from England (and a known DJ in Europe) and has quite an accent that you wouldn't expect based on his role in the series.

The Wire is partially based around some actual inner-city issues that occurred in Baltimore, MD.

Go here for detailed info and an interview with executive producer/writer/creator David Simon: http://www.hbo.com/thewire/
