I'm not re-writing history. I understand that he went through horrible times and that people were VERY racist against him. But someone said earlier that it bothers people that the two top homerun hitters are black men. I'm just saying that a lot of people respect Hank Aaron today. I think it is horrible that he had to deal with the racism that he did, but I don't think that is why so many people are rooting against Barry Bonds. I think more people don't like him because of the steroids accusations.

People started to like Aaron somewhat when he started playing Bud's Uncle Tom. Hank is still hated to this day, don't get it twisted. People don't like Barry because he never was a smiling samboo like Sammy Sosa to the media, more so then the accusations, and the fact that stupid ignorant people hate to see blacks dominate baseball, specially an angry black man like Barry. It is what it is.

He's breaking BLACK MAN'S record.

Well, I'm no baseball fan, so my take on all of this is rather passionless. I think his breaking of Hank's record pretty much means nothing now.

He'll always be "that guy who broke Hank's record, but..." and folks will just wait around for someone to break his, black, whtie or latino. Oh and don't forget about us Asians, we'll rock a baseball bat like it's numb-chucks motherfuckers!

I do believe he's over 300 RBI behind Hank Aaron.

I don't think he's ever gotten his teams in the playoffs with regularity.

He got FAT on subpar pitching (just like everyone else in this era), so the home runs DO NOT hold as much weight as his predecessors. Smaller parks, shitty pitching, tighter wound balls.....all facts.

does he have 3000 hits?

throw out the early years in Pittsburgh, how's his baserunning?

he's so QUICK to talk smugly about Babe Ruth, but he can't even hold Lou Gehrig's jock. He's got almost DOUBLE Lou's strike outs, .298 average to Lou's .340 and a slugging percentage nearly 30 points lower.

oh yeah, Gehrig did all that batting BEHIND Babe Ruth.

Make no mistake, the man is a hall of famer. Absolutely. But he's not in the greatest of all time discussion. That belongs to Willie Mays.

and yeah, all the numbers from after the strike year to the present are tainted. Plain and simple. It is what it is. I'm so sick of the discussion. Barry Bonds 755 are NOT the same as Hank Aaron's 755.

I didn't even know he was black until I saw him on CNN lol

That's cause I don't keep up with baseball (or any sports for that matter), but I knew he was tied into the doping scandal.

At any rate, his 'victory' will always be tied to the whole "..but the doping scandal" subject. It'll always be the Elephant in the room, or Michael Phelps in the kiddy pool, so to speak.

Ironically, the pitcher who served the 755 homerun tested positive for steroids when he was in the minor leagues in 2005, and he was suspended for 15 games.

Despite the controversy and his bravado, I've been tuning in. He has a don't care, not going to kiss butt to please you attitude and that really bothers baseball fans. I'm amused by it to a degree. I'm selfishly hoping he will slump at home, and hit 756 next Sunday since I'll be at that game.

I will say that this chase is very fun to watch. Every single pitch counts and you can see that the pitchers are just scared to be the one to give up the next home run.

Arguement? Who's argueing? It's ONLY tired if you're not black. Which I gather that you're not. It's NOTHING tired about racism. I stated a fact. Now just because u had a problem with me bringing up the fact that two brutha's just so happen to hold the most glorified spot in America's favorite sport, then that's your dance.

I'm happy for Bonds. I hope he breaks Hank's record. The next game he plays. I've been watching Bonds his whole career. He's always been a great homerun hitter. Always. I KNOW it's a VERY tough pill to swallow for many baseball fans that your two top homerun hitters in America's favorite pastime sport are black men, but uh....oh well.

Dude, you're usually more rational than this...it's not about race, but about the steroids. Hank will always have this record in my eyes, not BB.
Americas favorite sport is NOT baseball, but football, which is 80% black players. ALL of the top RB's of the past are black, and they are held in the highest esteem. Get the fuck out of here with that lame ass racial argument.
SEE THRU IT and figure out that it's the 'roids that people HATE about BB.

Do they not call baseball "America's Favorite Pastime"?... They do. Here's another silly muthafucker who doesn't read all of the post. Only picks out what he wants to see. Who in the fuck, besides u, is talking about football? Please don't try to school me about the racial breakdown in football. I'm already knowing all of this. But Jim Brown, O.J., Gayle, Walter, etc., don't have shit to do with the comment I made about two black men own the record in baseball. And that a lot of folks have a problem with that. This very thing has been discussed as of late on sport shows such as Jim Rome and Stephen A. Smith. I was never talking about "why" SOME folks hate Bonds. I never even brought up steroids. If it was Cecil and not Bonds, my comment would STILL stand. Replace Bonds with any other brother and it would still be a hard pill to swallow for some folks. THAT was what my post was about. Not folks loving black players like Michael Jordan and shit.

So if Mark McGwire was on the verge of breaking Hank Aaron's record, with all the same steroid accusations, would there be as much controversy? If so then it's about steroids. If not, then it's about race.
