Bonds 755*

Barry Bonds has just tied the home run record. In a game against the San Diego Padres, he hit a homerun with nobody else on base. Many fans are wearing * shirts because of the fact he is accused of steroid use.

Giant Douche.

I'm a Cubs fan, and I'll call Sosa a douche for the same reason. Fuck these cheaters.

Baseball SHOULD celebrate Bonds, just like they celebrated Sosa & McGuire in 1998. They knew what those cats were up to, but they looked the other way because fans were filling the seats.

But who do you blame? cause when you boil it all down its bout $$$. Do you blame the players who take the roids, do you blame the owners who will do whatever to make fill the stadium? or do you blame the public who crave to be entertained?

I'm happy for Bonds. I hope he breaks Hank's record. The next game he plays. I've been watching Bonds his whole career. He's always been a great homerun hitter. Always. I KNOW it's a VERY tough pill to swallow for many baseball fans that your two top homerun hitters in America's favorite pastime sport are black men, but uh....oh well.

..and the Lords of Baseball knew what was happening yet they did nothing - they're just as bad as the players. This sh!t's been going on since the late 80's. Folks villify Jose Canseco, but turns out he was right. Supposedly he has the goods on A-Rod in his upcoming book.

I'm amused by all the hypocrisy. You have loudmouths like Curt Schilling trashing Bonds, yet he says nothing about the juicers he played with in Arizona. Here in NYC, Yankee fans gave the cheater Jason Giambi standing ovations, but Bonds is the devil. Bunch of f-n yahoos - I can't take any of them seriously.

NEW YORK (SI.com) -- Beginning in 1998 with injections in his buttocks of Winstrol, a powerful steroid, Barry Bonds took a wide array of performance-enhancing drugs over at least five seasons in a massive doping regimen that grew more sophisticated as the years went on, according to Game of Shadows, a book written by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters at the forefront of reporting on the BALCO steroid distribution scandal.

The authors, Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams, describe in sometimes day-to-day, drug-by-drug detail how often and how deeply Bonds engaged in the persistent doping. For instance, the authors write that by 2001, when Bonds broke Mark McGwire's single-season home-run record (70) by belting 73, Bonds was using two designer steroids referred to as the Cream and the Clear, as well as insulin, human growth hormone, testosterone decanoate (a fast-acting steroid known as Mexican beans) and trenbolone, a steroid created to improve the muscle quality of cattle.

BALCO tracked Bonds' usage with doping calendars and folders -- detailing drugs, quantities, intervals and Bonds' testosterone levels -- that wound up in the hands of federal agents upon their Sept. 3, 2003 raid of the Burlingame, Calif., business.

Depending on the substance, Bonds used the drugs in virtually every conceivable form: injecting himself with a syringe or being injected by his trainer, Greg Anderson, swallowing pills, placing drops of liquid under his tongue, and, in the case of BALCO's notorious testosterone-based cream, applying it topically.

According to the book, Bonds gulped as many as 20 pills at a time and was so deeply reliant on his regimen that he ordered Anderson to start "cycles" -- a prescribed period of steroid use lasting about three weeks -- even when he was not due to begin one. Steroid users typically stop usage for a week or two periodically to allow the body to continue to produce natural testosterone; otherwise, such production diminishes or ceases with the continued introduction of synthetic forms of the muscle-building hormone.

Bonds called for the re-starting of cycles when he felt his energy and power start to drop. If Anderson told Bonds he was not due for another cycle, the authors write, Bonds would tell him, "F--- off, I'll do it myself.''

When informed of the book this morning and asked if he was concerned about it, Bonds told a group of reporters gathered around his locker, "Nope. I won't even look at it [the book]. For what? I won't even look at it. There's no need to." He then walked away.

The authors compiled the information over a two-year investigation that included, but was not limited to, court documents, affidavits filed by BALCO investigators, confidential memoranda of federal agents (including statements made to them by athletes and trainers), grand jury testimony, audiotapes and interviews with more than 200 sources. Some of the information previously was reported by the authors in the Chronicle. Some of the information is new. For instance, in an extensive note on sourcing, the authors said memos detailing statements by BALCO owner Victor Conte, vice president James Valente and Anderson to IRS special agent Jeff Novitzky were sealed when they first consulted them, but have been unsealed since.

Very true....when the question of steroids first came up, Saint Selig should have demanded an investigation....but since he was the Grinch that cancelled the World Series in '94, he was determined to get baseball back into the national consciousness....steroids be damned, give me all the homers we can handle...and now, I love the way he's the leader of the righteousness brigades that scream shit about Bonds like he's the only one to have allegedly use....but when Canseco's book came out, he was labeled as a lunatic and attention whore.....

I'm with you on this one...F the putos....

steroids don't make you a homerun king--good hand and eye coordination do. you can look like the fucking hulk, but if you can't hit the ball, then it doesn't matter. even if he did use, LOTS of other marquee players did too (and still do). so if he DID use them in the past, he's still knocking the ball out of the park with regularity. pitchers still don't want to pitch to him (if the opposing teams pitched to him like they were throwing those grapefruits to mcGwire a few years ago, this he'd be on 800 by now)

so don't hat teh player, hate the game cool

Arguement? Who's argueing? It's ONLY tired if you're not black. Which I gather that you're not. It's NOTHING tired about racism. I stated a fact. Now just because u had a problem with me bringing up the fact that two brutha's just so happen to hold the most glorified spot in America's favorite sport, then that's your dance.

I'm not re-writing history. I understand that he went through horrible times and that people were VERY racist against him. But someone said earlier that it bothers people that the two top homerun hitters are black men. I'm just saying that a lot of people respect Hank Aaron today. I think it is horrible that he had to deal with the racism that he did, but I don't think that is why so many people are rooting against Barry Bonds. I think more people don't like him because of the steroids accusations.

people hate him because he has a "fuck you" cavalier attitude. if he was a nice to the media, played with children and kissed babies, 98% of people wouldn't care one way or the other--only the 2% who actually live and breathe baseball would be huffing. cal ripken just got inducted into the hall of fame pretty much just for showing up to play baseball. his numbers are very good, but not spectacular. BUT...he played the PR game and people credit him for "saving" baseball after the strike, but blame Bonds for single handedly tearing the game down--nevermind that attendance spikes in every stadium he goes to.

People started to like Aaron somewhat when he started playing Bud's Uncle Tom. Hank is still hated to this day, don't get it twisted. People don't like Barry because he never was a smiling samboo like Sammy Sosa to the media, more so then the accusations, and the fact that stupid ignorant people hate to see blacks dominate baseball, specially an angry black man like Barry. It is what it is.
