Just a little something to make you aware and to be careful.

THROUGH A RAPIST'S EYES:

The headlines in the news media today are centered around multiple abductions, murders and RAPE.

A group of rapists and date rapists from various prisons were interviewed and asked what they look for in a potential victim. Here is some interesting response.

1. Most rapists look for a potential victim with 'hairstyle'. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other doo that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.

2. They look for particular clothing; something easy to remove - quickly. Many of them carry scissors to cut clothing. They keep an eye for women on their cellphone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking...in other words...off guard and set up for an easy hit.

3. The time of day men are most likely to attack is in the early morning, between 5 and 8:30 a.m. (morning erection out of control!)

4. The number one place women are abducted from/attacked at is grocery store parking lots. Number two is office parking lots/garages. Number three is public restrooms. Really.

5. The grab is fast and the intension is to move the victim quickly to a second location where the attacker can secretly do his business.

6. Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years. (so whatdya call scissors?)

7. If you put up any kind of a fight at all, most get discouraged; they don't care for women that will put up a mean fight. They avoid women with umbrellas, or other objects that can be used from a distance. Keys are not a deterrent unless you are really close to the attacker.


A Few Defense tips:

a) Like my mama always told me "Walk with a Purpose and Be Aware"

b) If someone is following behind you - on a street, in a garage, in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like - what time is it? Make general small talk. Now you've seen their face and can identify them. You've just lost some appeal as a target. Now we're supposed to keep in mind that only 2% of them carry a weapon (again - what are scissors?) Stand your ground. Get bitchy.

c) If someone is coming toward you - hold out your hands in front and yell 'Stop' or 'Stay Back! Once again, most of the rapists talked to said they'd split if they thought the woman was gonna put up a big fight.

d) If you carry pepper spray (excellent idea), yelling "I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY" and holding it out will again knock you down a notch as a target. You may not be capable of beating the attacker off with strength but you can outsmart them.

e) If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh - HARD. Some women have been known to break skin and even tear out tendons.

f) After the initial hit, always go for the groin. Some might think that this will anger the attacker even more, lashing out at you and hurting you... but on several occasions the surveyed rapists reportd - all they wanted was an easy target; not a woman that could be trouble.

g) If an attacker raises his hands to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible, with as much pressure, pushing down. It will bring most to their knees.

H) Don't dismiss any warning signs you may feel. Go with your instincts.

I think that life imprisonment would not even be enough for a rapist... rapists should be made to suffer horribly.

Excellent thread - major important things. Scream and draw attention to yourself and kick the asshole in the balls and then he will drop to the ground. Steal his wallet and run like hell to a public place and get help immediately.

When you scream, scream "Fire!" People tend to not want to get involved in personal attacks and will not respond to cries for help. However, if they feel their property is threatened such as with a fire, plus the curiosity of people and the draw they feel to watch a fire, will get more attention.

A few months ago a woman was brutally murdered in a public restroom. She gave up a good fight but he still got her. There was a security guard in the men's room taking a dump so he couldn't get up. BULLSHIT! No pun intended either.

The worst part about it is this guy was an employee at the Buger King, he had been charged with rape a few times and served over 10 years and BK didn't even do a background check. It was at one of those highway rest areas/fast food places and he worked 12am to 6am.

I know. But sometimes these people have had to live fucked up lives. Who knows if they were molested by a parent or someone close to them. I think that more than half of rapists are just seriously ill. And then they get thrown in jail rather than getting treatment.

It's easy for us to say just kill them or put them in jail and throw away the key...but what they really need is HELP.

And then we have date rape...that is something different all together. Drunk college boys and girls acting like idiots...

They should certainly be treated, but most doctors do not believe that you can cure a rapist, as the problems are usually progressive in nature... and can lead to murder in some cases.

Many of them truly do need help, and I am all for attempts to reform those who commit such acts... nothing wrong in trying..(even though many such attempts are unsuccessful, so many are repeat offenders even after attempts at reforming them). Either way part of any such reform should go hand in hand with taking responsibility for ones actions... and some of the sentences handed out are truly ludicrous... one has to protect future victims too... no system will ever be completely just... but you have to draw the line somewhere...

I just see so many cases in Australia where rapists get 2 or 3 year sentences.. and come out and rape again... that just aint right, no matter where one stands...

In South Africa it's even worse... 50% of woman there have been raped... and so often it goes completely unpunished... so yeah... reform is overwhelmingly needed. and the system does need to be improved. However I still believe many of the sentences given are way too soft... at the end of the day rape is rape... and there should be significant consequences for it. (Surely something more significant than 2 or 3 years in jail) ...

It is a mind set if you will.

There are several examples of men who have been castrated and still commit heinous crimes after they get off a shortened sentence, because they agreed to castration.

And two, there are women rapists too, though our society still sees male victims in a much lesser light than female victims--how are we to deal with them? Cut off the clitoris? You may cringe when i write that, but it is the female equivalent to male castration.

Castration, IMO, is 'cruel and unusual punishment' and is a form of mutulation. Like capital punishment, i don't see how mutulating one body justifies mutulating another, no matter how brutal the crime.
