My mother in law is freaking me out!!!!

She rang up an hour ago, in tears, more or less implying we were irresponsible parents because our kids have colds/flu and we haven't taken them to the doc.
Several young children in Australia have died of Influenza A strain (in other states, not ours) and she is convinced after watching the news that my 3 sons have it and that they will die eek

The health warning issued by the government states: very HIGH temperature, lethargy, unusually unwell.

My boys ate their dinners, had enough energy to tear around the house shrieking as usual. wacky

I know she means well, but she FREAKED ME OUT!!!! mad

Seriously....that looks exactly like my EX sister-in-law.

My mother-in-law is the most pretentious, narrow minded snob, and I tire of her more and more every day.

I've got the flu too, and it sucks. Tell her to stifle it.

Ugh, you have 3 boys! I have two. I really feel your pain Charlotte. My kids will be sick and be laying around acting like they are dying. So, then I'll feel bad and take them to the doctor and lo and behold, when we get there they are acting like maniacs and running around everywhere! They always make me look like a fool! The doctors always think I'm wacky.

Sorry about your MIL. Are you freaked out b/c she got you paranoid about the illness or is she just making you mad. lol

Wow, that sucks. Meddling grandparents can be a real problem. Especially when it's not your mother (who you could easliy tell to shut up).

I think my nephews are literally ALWAYS sick. I can't imagine freaking out over every cold or flu. I couldn't survive the constant stress. And imagine how much the doctor would hate me.

That's why I don't like the news. I watch it and I think I have bird flu, west nile virus, or that some product that's probably already on my shelf may be making me sick...tune in at eleven.

my kids don't even THINK to act sick, they haven't really slowed down at all confused

I am mad at her melodrama, I am mad how sucked in she is with TV - if it is on TV it must be true. And of course the paranoia is contagious too sad

I imagine her hovering over them while they're sleeping. Checking to see if they're breathing

Has she done this before? Is she manic depressive? Is she just trying to bug you? I would be pissed but then again she cares. She shouldn't accuse you of being a bad parent.

I know it is only because she cares, but that doesn't stop me from taking offence (I plead guilty to taking EVERYTHING personally boxed ) she apologised in advance for sticking her nose in my business, I know she HATED making that phone call. It was all implied, not an outright accusation. Had it been a different, sunnier day (and I wasn't so sick myself) I would have been able to calmly assure her everything is fine and of COURSE I would take them to the doc if I was worried myself, but no, she got me on the defensive and I had to excuse myself to hang up and got her son to call her back. sad

I'm with you on that. I would have been really offended. I know that if I ever become a parent I'm going to be a huge Papa Bear.

You done good girl! Heehee.

No offense to the fathers on the org but I will always marvel at the relationship or bond between a mother and child.

cool

mine is a step-mother in law- she knows not 2 butt in lol

my boy is still snotty/runny nose from his cold over 2 weeks ago
he had a high temp- but rest, plenty of fluids and panadol fixed the temp- exactly wot the dr would have said anyway
if he'd been really lethargic (he WAS a bit quiet) i would have taken him 2 c a dr.- but he'd had soccer and a birthday party the day b4- enough 2 tire anyone.
he is full of beans again - if he shows any sign of infection, i'll take him 2 a dr,but other than that, there isnt much a dr can do 4 a runny nose
hug
