I couldn't last one day on a fast or anything super strict like that You need 1000 calories a day just to have enough energy to do basic bodily functions. Yea, I don't think I'd have the energy to take a shit on just 500 calories

But when I break down and purchase some, you can kiss that entire box goodbye. As an adult who has weighed anywhere from 70 lbs to 200 lbs (I'm now somewhere in the middle, though closer to the latter than the former number), I understand weight struggles. I cut out nearly all carbs last year and lost 27 lbs in two months' time. But I was freezing, famished, and fatigued all day long. And as soon as I started eating 'bad' carbs again (white flour and sugar), I couldn't stop. Now, I'd just like to find a semblance of balance. And contentment. So if enjoying ice cream or bread every now and again makes me happy (albeit a bit chubby), I'll take it. To those who can eat fries and remain a size 3, more power to you. Bitches. (Just kidding.) That's alright, it catches up to them. It's weird though - when you're young & have a crazy fast metabolism, people can & often do eat whatever they want. But that leaves them ultimately not knowing how to eat right & not knowing what to do when weight starts to pile on. I think it takes a long time to learn too - years ago I never would have imagined turning my nose up @ a cheeseburger w/ loads of mayo on white bread, but it's the obvious enemy now. Even seemingly benign stuff like a flour tortilla is the devil, but it took me a long time to learn. I go on bread/pasta binges so it's really better for me to stay away from it in general (aside from whole wheat english muffins), that way when I slip up it's not so bad...

I live off carbs. Pasta, rice, breads, cereals, all that. I do lean toward the healthier, whole-grain varieties, but not always. I down fruits and veggies like there's no tomorrow. Though not veg, I don't eat much meat or animal products simply out of personal preference (pork is nasty! ) and I'm not really a big sugar person.
I don't consider this a "diet" though and I don't find it at all hard to follow. I was raised eating like this, so it just seems absurd to me that a person would actually crave crap like McDonalds. That said, my younger sister grew up eating the exact same foods I did and does the fast food-and-soda thing daily. She's twice my size. So obviously, personality factors must also be at play with our habits than simply our upbringing. Low carb/no carb diets are a terrible idea though. They're probably the worst way besides a bonafide eating disorder for a person to lose weight. Not only does the human body require a certain caloric intake per day, it also requires a certain amount of energy from carbohydrates, and that's a need not met by these stupid fad diets. Insufficient carb intake contributes to fatigue, organ damage, and a lowered ability to perform even basic mental tasks. Back in high school, the science and health teachers banded together to think of ways to discourage students and faculty from taking on these regimens. Besides all that, how much trust should your really be putting into something that isn't a diet at all, but a corporate enterprise? For Christ's sake, Atkins and South Beach have trademarked logos and retail stores! "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

You must look like a twig. no. not even close i lost 35lbs last year, working my ass off!!! and changing my diet all 100% the right way.NO fucking drugs etc... i don't even like taking an asprin. lol. the last couple months that i wasn't able to work out and had some personal issues, i gained a little bit back and i don't like it. it's not acceptable for ME so i'm trying to keep calories down and only eat the bare MINIMUM that I am comfortable with. i feel fine, been back in the gym and living for the treadmill. lol. people think i will get too thin but i'm not even close to being thin. call it self image issues or whatever, i'm just not happy with how I look right now. what works for some may not work for others and vice versa. I make at least one small cake a week, but with whole wheat or spelt flour and my friends KA-VETCH over it! I think that basically there's a happy medium for everybody. I just know that for me having diabetes be a genetic issue in my family, and being on the precipice of the condition for years has turned me off of refined sugars for at least 8 years now, no problemo! I can make one nearly half blind within 10 minutes without measuring a single ingredient (not including bake time), and it comes out rich almost like a soufflè In some of our cases its ultimately about finding what foods work best for you physically, I think... Y'all need to come over to MY house and let me throw down for you in the kitchen! We can get our cake on, AND our pasta. You'd be surprised, but unless you're just the kind of person that just neeeeds a fried fatback sandwich on Wonderbread (which I AM SO NOT MAKING FOR YOU), I PROMISE I would be able to please my carb and lower-carb eating org members just the same
